We're heading for San Sebastian on Friday, the Pintxos Bars are on my bucket list!

We've never visited before and any recommendations re the Bars would be great, the impression I get is to have one "beer" and move on to the next? Different bars specialising in different vol-au-vont or "nibble" type food that you get with the beer?

Also anything to see that Chris would be capable of, she's struggling badly with her knee at the moment, so long walks, uneven ground and stairs are pretty much out, but she's more than happy jumping on a bus or train (no not literally  ) ...

Cheers

If you go to the Tourist Office, they have (I assume they still do) a booklet with 3 routes round the centre with particularly recommended places - some of them you might miss out on otherwise - but tbh if you go to the narrow streets to the north of the main streets you will be spoilt for choice.

As above. Tourist Office in Alameda del Boulevard. Very helpful. Leaflet lists specialities of some bars. Try and find the little crab tartlets. Delicious! Also a couple of old school Churreria in the Old Town. Perfect for a hot chocolate and churros to finish the evening. Fantastic quality Pintxos everywhere. A great experience!

Heading there on Monday for a couple of nights too!! 🍷🍷

Love San Sebastián and visited loads of times in the van. Was there last New Years Eve. Head down to the old town and you can’t go wrong. As you say, drink and pintxos in each bar and soak up the atmosphere!

If you can work your way through any ads or pop-ups then THIS site looks like it's got some good info and reviews on it, never been personally though but it's on my list.

No pics unfortunately, but we learnt a few things that may help others...

There are lots of reports of van break-ins at the "wild" spots in town, we decided to stay at "WeCamp San Sebastian", book online for €24 Euro a night, they tried to charge us €40 but, after a discussion, they reduced it to €24. It's out of town so no ner-do-wells around. Clean, modern toilets and showers, laundry. When you've been given your pitch, walk down and check there's nobody on it. Plan to arrive at site between 12 and 16:00.

There is a bus from the campsite (#16) every 30 minutes that drops you off at the "Old Town", it's route covers a huge area of the City so you can jump off wherever you want. It stops at the Funicular Railway both on the way in and back out. You can pay for the bus with a Revolut card. ONLY "small dogs" are allowed on the bus, you must be able to carry them for the whole journey 😉

Pintxos bars, have a list of those you want to visit. Priority is claim a table, then think about ordering. For two ciders and two Pintxos your looking at about €12. Only have one Pintxos at each bar, otherwise you won't get very far! DON'T order from the display cabinet, order from the "Specials" on the chalk board, they're made fresh. Try to get an outside table, it's sweltering inside!

Hope this helps, have fun!

Edit: The web page that BobJayne provided a link to was Super useful!

Cheers
