I am in the process of purchasing a new (for me) Pilote g600L. My only real concern is the lack of a spare tyre. I am investigating the cost of having this installed. Two questions to anyone that has added this
  • What was the installed cost. I have been quoted £600 but have seen much higher prices
  • If you have one - do you know the combined weight of the fitting kit, wheel and tyre?
If you have a motorhome without a spare have you had a problem either with punctures or recovery?

Thanks in advance for any replies

Hi Nick,

The weight of the factory standard full spare wheel kit for this model is 32kg. It is fitted just forward of the fresh water tank but in reality it is a pain in the arse to access if you have to change the wheel yourself.

Lots of people just carry a spare tyre (but not the pressed wheel) for European travel. This allows for a local fitter to have ease of access to the correct tyre spec while the van owner gets to save about 26kg of payload.

On the Pilote G600L you should be able to fit a spare tyre in the external locker which is located to the rear right of the van.

We don't have a spare for travelling in the UK for two reasons: a. The UK recovery system is fantastic, and b. The camper specific tyres have a good track record - but they can still go pop.

Costwise, no idea I'm afraid.

That's a nice van BTW.

All the best,

Andrew

Hi NickA I have a 2015 G600 fitted with spare wheel. The carrier is the standard carrier for a Fiat Ducato Van. So nothing special and easily priced up plus fitting approx 1hr tops.
Weight no idea.
And I had it fitted when I bought the van new included in the negotiated price.
I have always insisted negotiating a spare wheel within the price of the MH.
When traveling down the Motorways in the early hours or on a Sunday and you have a blow-out and your in lane 2. By the time you get stopped and onto the hard shoulder the tyre wall will be shredded. You call the breakdown service to change the wheel, we’re do you get a new tyre if you don't carry one. Tyre moose useless.

Nick, a quick footnote: What year is your van as that will dictate the size of the rear off-side locker. The news series will have the large lockers, the older variants will have the smaller ones.

Cheers,

Andrew

The year of the van is 2014 - i think this is the smaller locker door having looked at a 2018 (that I could not stretch to!)

Thanks for the replies and advice

Nick, you have Wilmoths which is located in both Southampton and Guildford and they are one of the best Pilote dealers in the country in terms of value for money. It may be worth a visit to see if they will knock 3 or 4k off the price.

Example: My local dealer in Durham is selling a G600L (MY18) for £70k whereas Wilmoths has just sold a higher spec 600 for less than £60k. If you are prepared to hunt around and place a few cheeky offers then you may (likely!) end up buying a newer van.

Just a thought(y)

All the best,

Andrew
