On our latest trip things have gone from one catastrophe to another, the worst being not able to lock the van.
We had the same issue about 10 months ago and had the passenger and hab door actuators replaced......and all was fine.
Until Wednesday, just got to Lake Annecy, had found our pitch, was uncoiling the ehu cable and the van bleeped. I didn't pay to much attention as the keys were in my pocket, thought I'd accidentally pressed the buttons bending over. My beloved, "she who never loses her sh1t", went to open the passenger door to affix the silver screen and the door wouldn't open. Pressed the key fob and nothing, tried the key and still nothing , tried the hab door which was fortunately open and nothing. We both got in the van, shut the hab door and the alarm went off. The alarm failed to respond to the key fob or the app, the alarm/tracker company called to let me know.....I was so grateful!
Ended up disconnecting the alarm, tracker and the siren, wrapped the siren in vet bed and shut the bonnet. We then rather awkwardly apologised to our neighbours.
Rang the supplying dealer and asked what they did last year to get into the van.....wiggled the key and pulled the handle, eventually some thing give and it'll open. I followed their advice implicably until the key snapped.......then the vehicle battery died.
The following morning I drove to Norauto and bought a replacement battery for €285 and went to get a spare key cut. The first place insisted that it would have to be done by Fiat, the next few were shut for annual holiday and then I struck gold....Mister Minit, the French equivalent of Timpsons I think. Absolutely no problem sir we can cut you a replacement as you wait, fished in my pocket for the spare and it wasn't there!!!! I then retraced all my previous destinations, having nightmares if how I was going to rectify this sh1t show, got to the last place before Mister Minit and there it was, just lying in the road. I really couldn't believe my luck and proceeded to get spares made.
Returned to the van about 7 hours after I left and managed to get the passenger door open. I then stripped both offending doors and removed the actuators, both looking worse for wear but I can now lock the van.
Sorry about the verbal diarrhoea but can anyone recommend a suitable replacement that isn't as prone to heat as these are.
