Our van is 5 years old and on my hab check, it flagged that the pigtails date was Aug 2023.

Am going to replace them but wondered what the thoughts are which is better, overbraid or polypropylene? Cost difference is minimal ( £5)?

Thanks

I would be very interested in seeing a picture of your existing pigtails ?
Unfortunately there has been so much misinformation about gas hoses over the years.
In reality very few gas hoses only have a 5 year lifespan.

This topic is of great interest to me. Our newish to us Autotrail is 2011 and I as I write, as I am not at the van, I don't know the age of the pigtails save to say they are orange, and the one's I'm looking at online are black. What is the recommended life of pigtails before replacement? I also notice that as with ours, they are attached to the cylinders by the appropriate spanner, you can also have them with a hand wheel instead. Which is the better? Is replacement a job that can be done safely by the Owner?

My genuine Truma ones have a tag with 10 year date on them

We replaced ours about six months back and put a review on here. Would highly recommend for service quality.

I will take a pic later today and post.

I changed mine over earlier this year.. The code was in French with a 2019 date and having bought the van (used) in 2019 i assumed that was the manufacture date. Turned out when i translated it was the expiry date.. The thumbwheel versions i find are a lot easier when changing the bottles over. More so if you are working in a tight space. Easy DIY job just a nut at the regulator end.

Date on the pigtail is May 2018, so 5 years life to May 2023

I did read it…

So if the guidance says replace a hose/ pigtail after 5 years, I should ignore it? Is that the professional advice?
To quote Basildog "In reality very few gas hoses only have a 5 year lifespan".
But, they are on the high pressure side of the system, so if you are uncertain, then just replace them now..

Which countries are shown on that side of the label ?
There is a crazy situation where many gas hoses have different expiration dates for different countries.
Check both sides of that label.
The NCC was giving out incorrect information about gas hose life for many years and certain manufacturers are still printing incorrect information on their labels ⚠️

When we replaced ours they were well in excess of the "5 year recommendation" and, visibly, they looked perfect but for the cost of a few pounds, better safe than sorry principle adopted.

Unfortunately much of the guidance from (professionals) is actually incorrect.
The condition of a gas hose is the most important factor then the manufacturers / industry recommendations.
Most gas hoses now have an expected maximum lifespan / replacement date of 10 years .

Begs a question why we should ever listen to professionals….
