Pictures of older motorhomes?

For many years I spent the winter in warmer climes and generally found a renovation project to keep me out of the bar. The first photo is of my old Rockwood with me trying out a generator I had picked up at the local car boot sale somewhere in Spain.
The second shows one of the paintings I had done on the old girl in Morocco. A very hippy looking Snowbird in the foreground.

Interesting, What was the layout like? is that 2 hab doors I can see? Like the RMB mind.

Your right, not only did it have two hab doors, it also had driver and passenger doors. I found a couple of interior photos taken during the renovations although that thing was so ugly I have tried to erase it from my mind.

I love the VW Polo trailer in the first picture . Some great vans you’ve had there 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Mk1 golf trailer ....i built a few of them lol
Had golf , caddy , escort van , ford capri , morris marina and talbot horizon trailers in my time ....i did start to build a t4 trailer once but never did finish it ...sold it part done and saw it on ebay once so its probably still out there
A lot of the pics i have were before digital cameras or mobile phones so they are old printed photos in my mums loft
I've an old suitcase up there with a load of old registration documents too as when i was younger ( late teens and 20's ) i often applied for a second one saying it had got lost or damaged etc so i could keep a copy ....seems daft now but i had some motors back then thats worth crazy money now

Old auto Trail I had when all 4 kids used to travel with us, The police took it away one morning because it was stolen but Brought it back because the front and the back where not from the same van and the insurance said I could keep it, too much hassle for them to deal with it, I registered it on the proper plate and sold it for £2000 profit. Oh by the way, I did not know it was stolen and all the details made sense on the checks.

As I mentioned on another thread, this was our first one, a Commer Autosleeper, which we called Marmajuke (MMJ reg). :D2

We'd been looking for a MH for ages but either missed them or they were a pile of poo so were getting to the point we wouldn't ever find one. He was advertised in Exchange and Mart ... I remember well getting to the newsagents at lunchtime and waiting for them to open the 'pack' to start selling them, we then quickly scoured it and found our possible new 'toy' ... we rang up the seller who told us it was part of a death estate and the price, £495, was set in stone, no more, no less and the first person to come and pay a deposit got it ... I rang work and begged to be allowed to have a longer lunch than usual so we could go and see it immediately. When we got there we were second in 'the queue' and we thought we'd lost it ... it turned out though that the person looking at it was just being nosy ... it was soon ours! :clap2:

We had to get it low-loaded to a local garage and spent a fair bit getting him sorted as he'd been stood for 2 years and needed mechanical and welding work but he was lovely ... in great condition internally and externally ... the paint was great and original, no rust at all. It had been owned by the same chap from new with 52k on the clock, it had just been neglected when he fell ill and his family didn't bother with it ... the only fault we never sorted was the water tank which had, at some point, had petrol put in so wasn't usable, but other than that it was great. We used to take it to classic car shows and everyone used to want to buy it and the eventual new owner was someone who had drooled over it for a year. :D

Lovely outfit. Autosleeper and Viking Fibreline caravan.....Quality 👍
Ah yes, the caravan, lovely it was too, totally original, we only parted with it as it wasn't possible to tow it and our Bond Minicar to rallies further afield at the same time.

please keep them coming - the memories and the pics!!

After the usual transition from tents to caravans, this was our first motorhome, on our first trip

A very, very, very steep learning curve, but we must have got used to it since we kept it for nearly 20 years.

Brilliant pictures . Lucky kids 👍🏻
I don't know about lucky, in those days RVs abroad were a rarity, and when we pulled onto campsites with the car on the back we attracted an awful lot of attention. This resulted in the kids hiding on the floor in embarrassment :giggle: Although we had many many great times in it, helped by the fact that thanks to the major ferry companies being clients of mine we never had to pay for crossings all the time we had it, we wouldn't go back to a RV now.

Some great memories I bet . Made me laugh about the kids getting all embarrassed .
That’s really brilliant that you got free ferry crossings ! Must have saved hundreds 👍🏻
