Does anyone know why the wheel brace on my 2001 Peugeot boxer has a cranked end opposite the socket end? I ask as I am considering cutting it off so I may be able to slide a pipe over it to loosen tight wheel nuts. However it may have a use I am in aware of.

No idea but I would worry that adding a length of pipe for those tight nuts will result in damaging the brace (I've bent/broken a couple in the past), best to buy a proper tool for the job.

Hi.
That is the first one i have seen like that. But there is nothing new under the sun. Back to cutting that bit off. Yes,i would, but its up to you. UNDOING stiff wheel nuts,an old trick is to apply pressure to the nut, then hit the cranked bit where it comes FROM the nut. This sometimes free's up the thread, tightening back up again.Gone are the days you tightened wheel nuts up until your knuckles bled,as a rough guide,i have found the supplied tool gets it about right " N&M's..Whatevers , but a tool that can be set at the right N&M's.." Torque wrench " can be bought for very little money.

Looks like something people of a certain age group will remember well, and no doubt miss very much.
A Starting Handle:giggle:
The number of times one of those would get you out of trouble.(y)
I agree the flat bit at the end is probably to put your foot on for extra leverage, however a breaker bar would be better, as you can fit a decent quality socket on the end of it.

Well I do have a torque wrench but do not like using that to heave on very tight nuts. Too mean to buy a breaker bar to keep in the van. If that bend on the end has no purpose off it comes, think of the payload saving😄.

The ones I've used that come with the car are poor quality and just bend, I specifically remember the Peugeot 306 one was useless. Since then I've bought a telescopic one as above but branded Draper.

Does it do double duty as a handle for a scissor jack with the vehicle?

Six foot of scaffold pole on that bar and it will undo anything,BUSBY 😄😄

I carry one of these 3/4 inch drive with a dedicated 24mm socket attached, it’s the only thing that‘ll shift them there wheel nuts and no grazed knuckles of shins.

Oh! Our 2006 boxer doesn’t have a bent wheel brace like that. 🤔
Just a flat one that sits snug in the tool wrap.
Must have a look at that tool wrap. Can’t remember if there’s a way to lift the Motorhome up should there be a need to.

No, that has its own winder, not that I fancy using it unless in an emergency, such as the pub will close before the RAC will get to me.
