I never know to post threads as I can never seem to find the correct heading so this is Netherlands and Belgium simply because it is a visit to the Louwman Museum in the Hague, as described in my thread https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/baltic-coast.159820/page-3#post-2505133 it was a rainy day in Delft so rather than wandering around in the rain I found this museum, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louwman_Museum

And wow what a collection.

This is what greets you as you pay your €14 and walk through the door.

Access to the Museum is dead easy and we just parked the motorhomes in the bus parking and the lady on reception said that "that fine"

So if anybody is interested I will "drip feed" this thread with photos and hopefully descriptions of some rather special cars, and while I am on I can thoroughly recommend this as a day out only about 30 miles from the Rotterdam ferry terminal.

Martin

OK here we go, you have to excuse me if I don't know all the models but I will try(y)

As you walk in to the foyer before the main museum there is an area with a car per country.

The dark blue beast in the foreground is I believe a Lancia and rather nice it was too.

And this as it says on the back is a 1948 8 cylinder Tatra 87 from Czechoslovakia as it would be at the time,

Martin

The Tatra was a strange beast indeed with its rear engined V8. Favoured by the higher politario.

And from the USA,

A 1915 Simplex Crane,

And a rather pretty second generation Corvette called a Sting Ray later version were Stingray without the space, all fibreglass of course.

From Japan,

Toyota 2000GT, this one is US spec as it has "pop up" headlights as apparently the USA had regulations as to the height of headlights from the road, the original ones were still in the bumper though behind plexiglass screens.

I said "apparently" as I don't actually know any of this and I am trying to remember what I read so I stand to be corrected by any more knowledgeable than me.

And from Great Britain,

IMG_0973.jpg

Jaguar XK120 fixed head coupe, in case you can't read the board it says, 1952 3.4 litre six cylinder 160 hp, the 120 comes from its top speed of 120 mph and at the time it was the fastest production car in the world, this example is unrestored and still in its original metallic blue paint although if you want me to be picky there are a couple of little areas of corrosion under the paint:LOL:

From France Citroen DS 19 a very technologically advanced car for its time,

And then it was time for Coffee(y)

IMG_0976.jpg

At the far end is a workshop with old car and bike and full workshop tools of the era, all the shops around the seating are period displays.

Stunning, have added to bucket list to do
Thanks

I can remember those DS Citrones my grand farther used to show them to me and said ' these will never catch on the tin worms will eat them before they are worn out,

OK after a coffee we got a bit excited and started going backward through the exhibits on the ground floor when we should really have gone up in the lift to the third floor and it would have been more chronological.

Anyway as it is a motorhome forum I will give you this one to start the museum proper,

And a "ready to race" 1929 type 35C, if you go to Angouleme "Circuit des ramparts" you will see a race full of these.

Don't suppose they had a Panther de Ville did they?

I will let you have a rest for a while and then if you ask very very nicely there are more, but if you are going to go and visit don't let me spoil it for you so I won't be offended if you put this thread on ignore:LOL: but I will say that this is still only a fraction of the exhibits.

Martin

I'm in Martin. Keep 'em coming please.

I will give you some more tomorrow I am off to bed "jet lagged" from the ferry home.

Well getting up at early o'clock anyway.

Martin
