Since 2017. Before had caravan, folding camper and various tents.
A warning. We had our pet passport in Ireland. The vet filled the passport in correctly. Under microchip she chose the option of date of reading.
At the pet reception at the Chunnel they said this was not acceptable as we couldn’t show that the rabies jab was given after the microchip. After getting more documentation they let us through but said they wouldn’t again, and records were kept to ensure this.
They suggested we get a new passport, or give him a rabies booster, even though not due until 2025.
Not sure where all this is coming from. They said it was DEFRA rules. We didn’t have a problem last October.

Its always been the case that rabies had to be given after the dog was microchipped. But generally the same date was (is?) acceptable. So a reading date and a rabies vaccine date which are the same should be acceptable. Is that the case here?

We had the same problem when the Belgium vet did our dogs passport so we ended up having to have another AHC and then got rabies done in France and alls good now.

From Defra's website -

"Bringing your pet dog, cat or ferret to Great Britain

Microchip

You must get your pet microchipped before, or at the same time as, their rabies vaccination. If you do not, they’ll need to be vaccinated again."

(my highlighting)

yet later in the same section:-

"Make sure your vet puts the microchip number in your pet passport or health certificate. The date must be before your pet’s vaccinations."

I'll make enquiries...

The issue seems to be that the vet used the wrong date so it appeared that the chip was implanted AFTER the rabies jab, it should have been the date the chip was originally implanted. Unfortunately you will have to get an AHC to go out again but not a rabies jab, then just get another rabies jab done in the EU, don't do it in the UK as it will be more expensive and a waste of money as you'll need it entering in the PP and no UK vet can do that.

The only other option is to contact the vet who did the PP and see if they will issue another completed correctly. When we get PPs we always checked they were correct as soon as we left the vet and last time had to return as they'd put a date on the wrong line.

Reading it the same time and using the same date for chip and rabies jab is correct as that's how our Bella's was done and there were no issues.

That is how I understand it, but Defra do seem to contradict themselves on their website.

As far as I can see she did fill it in correctly. It is the uk that won’t accept the passport without the microchip date. The option of date of reading is in the pet passport.
Obviously our dog did have the microchip before the rabies jab. We had a copy of the microchip certificate to prove it.

So, just to clarify, in the passport the "Date of Reading" was the  same date as the latest Rabies jabs?

No country will accept the PP without the microchip being read and the date entered either at it being done then or when originally inserted, without that confirmation there's no proof the microchip has been checked and is in the dog.

Reading this again I think you mean microchip insertion date entered, not that there wasn't a date at all.

The option of reading date is for subsequent entries not the first entry in the passport which should always be when the chip was inserted.

The date of reading was the date the passport was issued. The rabies jabs were given prior to this. The vet then added the rabies dates to the passport. This is all to get to France, where we are now.
We might ask the French vet giving worming before return to also give rabies booster.

OK, so the rabies dates pre dated the date of reading of the microchip. Which is not accepted.

As has been suggested, just get him/her a rabies booster while you're over there.

Apologies to all. I read this, and wrongly assumed the PP issuing vet had given the rabies vaccine. As it is, with the rabies vaccine being given earlier elsewhere, I can see why there would have been a problem. Sorry.

When the vet transfers the rabies data and then dates the microchip date as date of passport issue this causes problems. I decide just to have another rabies at time of passport issue t save such problems. As already said get a rabies booster whilst away and you will have no more problems.
