The Bury St Edmunds details I'm pretty sure are defunct now.

Is that quite a recent thing?, my mate had his van uplated there last year, or was it 2018, my memory isn't what it was.

I don’t think he’s doing it any more as I’m sure minxy girl used SV Tech for her new van?

He up-plated ours a couple of years ago and he was operating from home and said that he did not used the Bury St Edmunds office anymore which is probably why that number just rang and rang and rang.
I initially contacted him on the home number and then continued via email.

When I requested info on an uprate I got one reply but as soon as I asked any questions never heard any more from him so didn’t bother with him we have used SV Tech and although a little more expensive an excellent service well worth the extra??

I emailed John over a copy of the sales blurb and spec for our van and that we had fitted air assist on the rear so he had all the info he needed, a week later paid the £100 plus VAT requested and received the documentation for the DVLA a couple of days later. (y) :giggle:

Hi
What exactly did you have to tell him please? Just make & model, VIN number? Thanks

AFAIK he's still doing it so I would certainly use John again and was considering him for our Carthago's upgrade but the dealer was paying for it as they cocked-up when the registered it and, as they wanted to reclaim the VAT, it was easier to use SVTech who they have had dealings with before.

For info the cock-up was that the dealer hadn't registered it at 3850kg as we'd agreed when we purchased it as Carthago only supply a CoC up to a max of 3700kg for Fiat light chassis based ones but they didn't tell us this and just registered it. We only found out when it was finally registered by the DVLA and we saw it on their website ... obviously we were not happy that it was at 3700kg as we knew that wasn't enough for us.

The only way we could get 3850kg was to have paperwork from an engineer (SVTech, John Ruffles etc) to state it was safe to do it so as the dealer hadn't told us about the reduced weight they had no option but to pay to have it done and which is why we took advantage of the situation and had the rear semi-air suspension fitted so that it also increased the rear axle capacity from 2000kg to 2240kg - if we did it later we'd have had to pay again (or used John of course).

So Speve ... stick that up your exhaust pipe!

I am in touch with John Ruffles at the moment, having made enquiries about up plating our new acquisition. to which he responded almost immediately. :)

I supplied John with a copy of pages one and two of the V5, a photo of the MH, and photos of the Iveco plate, as well as the converters plate. From this info, he was able to make an initial assessment.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

That's about it, plus if I remember rightly, a photo of the existing axle weight and the converters plate, and a copy of the V5.
... and confirmation of what tyres you have on it too so that he can assess if they are able to take the extra weight.

With Some. a Change of tyres, will get an extra margin. But there are Light and Heavy chassis on the Alko range.

Page 21? I think if you open the PDF up (needs Adobe Acrobat)

SV Tech charged £312 inc VAT (ie £260 + VAT) for our uprate so that must be their going rate.

It is a bit weird that Carthago list an upgrade to 3850kg for the other models in the range but only 3700kg for the I138, all on the lightweight chassis.
