enough to know i shouldnt touch things i know nothing about ....
Just watched (part of) a you tube video Vans For The Memories - in the video it shows a pre payment card for electricity use on site with anything not used being reimbursed - it seems like the right idea especially as (i understand) you cant be charged more than the site buy it from the provider. The site is Braemar Caravan site, Invercauld Estate.

they were charged 27p per unit (we pay more than that for our daytime rate !) though our night rate is a lot cheaper!

there must be a cost though in installing the meters which accept prepayment (or poss the site just absorb that cost in their running costs)?

Their cost for two nights was under a pound !!! i wonder how much they would have used if it wasnt metered though !!!

At the moment I'm on Smeatons Lakes site at Newark with same/similar system. You're handed two cards when checking in. One turns the supply on, the other turns it off. The cards are registered to the person rather than the pitch so changing pitches mid-stay is no issue. Amount used is recorded in the site reception and paid for as you leave.

We stopped on a CL just north of Lecester a few weeks ago, each of the pitches have their own coin meter. The meters were the same prepaid meters we had at home in the sixties and seventies. We were quite lucky, the previous camper had left a few bob on the meter, it only cost us £1 for the night which included Alde heating on for a few hours, which we all know can be quite expensive on electric.

We have just stayed 5 days on a Spanish site with metered ehu at 36 cents a kwh. Used 5 euros worth. Fridge on gas and solar, but still using electric kettle for convenience. It could have been a lot less if I had remembered the 12v lead for the beer cold box.
Im all in favour of metering a fixed charge encourages waste.

I wonder if we will see any electric awning heaters in the for sale section soon ::bigsmile:

I think paying for what you use is fair and those sites that include EHU in their price should offer an option at a reduced price for non EHU.
