Pay in full before pick up

Also if you pay upfront, it's legally yours.

Then it can be sat on the forecourt uninsured.

No way Jose.
Going by that are you suggesting that the van wouldn't be insured on the dealers forecourt awaiting service work.

Why not when its awaiting delivery then? same scenario surely.
It will only be insured at the dealers once paid for IF the purchaser also insures it from that point, if they don't then it won't be.

Thanks to everyone for there input on this subject, I spoke to the dealer today just to check all was going well with our proposed pick up date ( Thursday 20th May )and told them I will send a small payment to set up new Payee and pay the balance on arrival after checking all is okay with the motorhome , they were happy enough with this, so all good so far.

Sent the money to my German dealer a week before flying over to collect😳

It’s a bit worrying as you just never know but either that or no van.

Even more worrying when you ask the dealer to let you know the money has landed they then don’t and go home!!

There are two kinds of BAD payers, those that pay before they get their goods and those that don't PAY at all,,😁 BUSBY.

What worries me, especially in the current situation with businesses failing all the time, is that you transfer the money 24 hours or less before the company calls in the receivers. You then become one of God knows how many people fighting for the return of your cash. No van, as that will be on the dealers stock sheet on finance with the finance company first in line with a call on it's title. And lucky if you get 10% of what you paid back

The above has happened to many people, it is not just another scare story

I only ever transfer the cash when I have looked over the van and done due diligence on confirming the dealer or other has clear title to sell it. Done properly, the dealer clears the stocking loan 24 hours prior to collection and then you pay the dealer for clear title. Too many now seem to ask for cash up front to use to clear the stocking loan before handing over title. This gets very complicated when the stocking loan has multiple vehicles registered against it. Dodgy dealers have been known to pay off other vehicle loans with the customer money on the gamble that they sell another to pay off the loan on "your vehicle". This is where multiple people have come unstuck by buying vehicles with undeclared finance registered against them. The dealer goes bust and the finance company send out a team to collect "their property" from the cheated purchaser. A V5 log book is NOT proof of ownership

In an ideal world we would both travel to view but due to our location Scotland and the dealers location south of England ( deposit was placed before border crossing allowed again ), we placed a deposit based on there honesty and a video viewing, one of us will fly down to pick up the MH when its ready and can only hope as described or we will be fighting to reclaim our deposit which was 10 percent of cost. We have done our research on the dealers and all seems legitimate with decent reviews.
