Passport Renewal

Did not know that, so thanks and I am glad I asked.

So we now have to learn how to transfer a photo from a phone to a laptop. Or I suppose we could still use a camera which we know how to transfer.
Or a professional photographer who can take the digital image & has the link to UK passport office & can generate a unique code that you can also upload for them to be able to download the photo. Even though Jac's first photo stated it was over 3/4 of the way through the green band & 'should be acceptable' it wasn't:rolleyes: Another one has been done & sent.
I wouldn't mind if in the last 10 years anyone had ever used the 'iris scanning' bit with me?

Another one has been done & sent.
And that apparently was acceptable as application has been approved 👍
TNT have been responsible for a lot of passports disappearing without trace as they aren’t signed for at all.
Fortunately anything has to be signed for here along with you ID number.
There is an "online premium" service where you get your passport at the appointment but it costs £177
Just done a dummy booking and the fist available appointment is 20th April!
That isn't bad. In 2002 we paid £150 each for while-you-wait renewal passports at Newport office.
To think my last one was back in a week or 10 days!
Yes as I posted before 7 days from here start to finish in 2013.

Look on the bright side, once received you will be in possession of a good old fashioned dark blue British passport with no EU flag. ;)

I really wish that was true. The current black one (I dispute it's any shade of blue) looks cheap and nasty. It certainly doesn't remind me of the old ones.
I really liked my old blue one - I was lucky in that I got one of the very last ones; at the time I travelled a lot, and whilst standard passports had been EU for a while, if you ordered one of the extra pages ones you still got the traditional UK style.

I got mine this year, I don't remember how long it took - it wasn't particularly fast or slow, a low number of weeks.

You think that a photographer in Poland can do that?

Do the Passport Office accept DVLA photos like the DVLA accepts Passport photos? We cold go round in circles here.

If you are renewing abroad do you have to send your passport back to the UK or the embassy in the country you are in ?

Good Q.

Also what happens if you have a Visa stamped in one's passport for a country, which is valid beyond the passport expiry date. I had a US 'Indefinite, multi-entry' visa so had to carry old passport to show that.

US later revoked all of those visas, so much for 'indefinite'. Now I do not go there for work I do not want to visit at all.

Î'd struggle finding one here:LOL:

I've no idea?

Sent to Durham now.
It used to be sent to madrid & we had a new one back from the UK in 7 days. Now they have 'improved' & 'streamlined' in the name of efficiency it will be 4 weeks for me on Monday & it still hasn't been 'approved'

Well I'm glad to see someone is working as the easter bunny approved my application at 4,30pm today.(y):giggle:

On Good Friday?

Must be a scam.
When I was sorting Jackie's photo on Thursday and uploading to there site it states that the office and passport helpline is open 8-8 Monday to Fri &8- 5,30 Saturday,Sunday & all Bank Holidays .

Considering TNT don't have an office within 50 miles of here it should be good.

That " allow 10 weeks" was showing when i applied on 21st march but it was saying 5 weeks actual in the no;1 box for a striaght renewal.
My wife's passport arrived today. I signed for it .DHL delivered it on behalf of TNT.
They keep all "document" deliveries safe in a supermarket crate. Hopefully mine will arrive tomorrow?

Sent my old passport off over a week ago. Recorded delivery.

They received and signed for it a week ago.

Online application still asking me to send my old passport before progressing the new one as no acknowledgement of receiving it.

Hoping it all suddenly gets found and goes through as I only have 19 week's before I need it :unsure:

If I were asked to send my old passport back I would respond that as a UK Citizen I need it as ID because UK does not issue ID cards.

Actually I think that was my response on last renewal and it caused no problem.

Unfortunately that’s no longer acceptable, they really won’t release the new one. You have to ensure that you have an alternative form of identification. The application for a new passport for UK nationals living abroad is completely online and the old passport has to be returned to the UK and not the local Embassy or High Commission. https://www.mcgillandco.co.uk/blog/...ports-from-abroad-what-do-i-need-to-know.html

No exceptions. Daughter is in the Foreign Office and collleagues have to do it when overseas so have to time it right. They have diplomatic passports but aren’t allowed to use them for holiday trips. Pain in bottom at the moment!

We sent ours on the 21st March tracked all the way & signed for by them on 28th March. they "received " them on the 13th April. That is when they opened the envelope.

received my new one back a short whole ago. It appears that DHL are still doing all the overseas deliveries.(y)

Thank goodness for this thread! My passport expires June 2023, but I thought I’d check, as we hope to go to Spain in October for a few weeks! Good job I did, because the issue date is September 2012, so it would be older than 10 years when we travel! So, online application with a digital photo - looks complicated, but living in the sticks we struggle to find a photo booth that is suitable! Anybody done this successfully recently (applied online with their own photo taken on a phone?). I used the post office check thing last time, but I’ve had difficulty with the photos before!

We’ve done ours online and managed to take the photos OK. Although we’re both used to our different phones, one iphone and one android we don’t tend to take many photos so needed a few goes as we both wear glasses and you need the photos without. Ours were replaced pre Covid so didn’t take long. You take a head and shoulder shot and then it get’s resized for you during the application.

Well it did. A week later and have the new one. Arrived yesterday.

Update: sent an online application on 2nd May (after resorting to a white sheet hung on the wardrobe in order to get the photo accepted 😃). Received my new passport yesterday - 12th May - so only 10 days! I sent it first class signed for, & wondered afterwards if I should’ve sent it registered post, but hey ho! Just waiting for my old passport now, but that doesn’t matter! Well pleased all around!

Did mine end last month 14 days door to door well pleased give what has been reported in the press. Well done passport office.

FACT CHECK
No hard evidence behind passport renewal claim
83bc6ac3-8ed4-4e65-97cb-e97bc3389b27.png
ITV reported that holidaymakers have an estimated 50% chance of getting their passport renewed in a “successful and timely manner”. This figure, which isn’t based on statistical evidence, was also reported by a number of other outlets including LBC, The Mirror and the Daily Star.

The estimate comes from the Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr). We asked them a number of times about how the figure was calculated. They described it as an “assumption” which was “made for illustrative purposes”. This does not appear to have been reflected in the media coverage of its report, much of which was headlined on the 50% figure.

Cebr also told us that its assumption that passport renewal waiting times had increased to the extent that holidays are being cancelled was based on “anecdotal evidence” from press reports and Parliament. This isn’t a reliable way to arrive at a figure with any certainty.

There’s no doubt that some holidaymakers have been facing delays with passport renewals recently, with several MPs speaking in Parliament about constituents losing money after being forced to cancel travel plans because their passports were not returned in time.

We don’t have an alternative estimate for the proportion of holidaymakers who may not receive their passport back in time for their holiday, so it’s hard to tell how accurate the Cebr figure may be.

But according to the Home Office, 90% of passport applications completed between January and March this year were processed within six weeks—four weeks less than the 10 weeks which the government now recommends people allow for when applying to renew their passport.
