As I am new to motorhoming, how do you go about parking in normal sized car parks?
The MH is 6m long so will need 2 spaces I suspect so do you buy 2 tickets?

You really need to study the rules of the car park.
You would think paying for 2 bays is the right thing to do BUT I have read threads where people have been fined because the rules stated the vehicle must fit into a bay..

I'm 8 mtrs so if i do need a town stop its a supermarket, DIY or similar parkup for us.

Some places you can buy two tickets and be okay but in others (Edinburgh is notorious) you have to fit in a singe bay.

Look for places where you can back into a space and get your overhang over grass (NOT over a footpath please).

It does take some planning.

This site gives very general advice but each local authority (or even every town) has it's own set of rules.

Some state 2 tickets on the signs
Some dont

I was at Morecambe and the local Hitler there insisted on giving me a ticket for the hang over into another bay...middle of winter and probably 8 other cars on the car park.

I always try to park with my rear end back against the outside perimeter of the car park. Usually the rear overhang will be over a grass verge or low bushes and the front only sticks out a foot and doesn’t cause an obstruction and I cannot be charged for 2 spaces 😁 So don’t park in the centre isles.

Always check with the car park management (local council or private) to see what the rules are.
Many have details on their web sites now, or at least have a contact number/email address to ask.

Some supermarkets don't normally allow use of two bays but we found that if we asked if it was OK whilst we did our shopping, or whether we should move on to one of their competitors, we were normally OK.

Not a helpful description. The parking attendant would be bound by the rules of their employer so would have no leeway over what they were allowed to do (much the same as somebody at the end of a customer service phone for so many of our large companies).
If the rules seem unreasonable, the best approach is to take it up with their managers by making a reasoned case for change to the rules.

I have been known to take up 4 parking bays at Tesco after one armhole parked so close I couldn’t get my sliding door open to get my shopping in🤬😤🤨

It was an excellent description and you weren't there so Id say your post is not a good depiction or assumption.

I did take it up told them (Lancaster) I was sat in the van at the time and watched him walk past cars (of the few) that were over the lines and he didnt ticket them, and was recinded 3 weeks later with an apology about hitlers attitude and if I required it I could request the body camera footage be reviewed.

oh and he had a little black tash and black hair, about 5.ft 9 walked with a funny stride

so would have no leeway over what they were allowed to do

as for no leeway, haaaaa, dont make me laugh

It makes it difficult to know what's best to do,

I has an altercation with a post van on Easter Sunday( I thought they didnt work then). He wanted to be down the street where my Dad lives but I had an Hire Mercedes (brand new) as my car had been rear ended. He couldnt get past as its very narrow but wouldnt park at the top and walk 10 yards. I had to move as he was going to barge past and it wasnt my car.

Report him to his manager 😐

I used to live in Banbury and when we bought a motorhome decided to take the Mrs to show her around .phoned the local council and asked if I could park motorhome anywhere and was told yes in the coach park, so off we went got there and no motorhome parking in coach park! So went into town No vehicle over 2.5 ton allowed to park! Spoke to the warden and he told us to park in a disabled spot but don't come back when you're time is up as he would have to write a ticket so we had a cup of tea and went this was about 6 years ago so might have changed but if it has would be surprised
