Has anyone got any advice about parking the van in Margate. Google hasn't been much help. We were thinking of visiting the Turner gallery while we're staying at Canterbury for a few days.

Yes we stayed overnight a few weeks ago on a beach side car park which allows it. Had 4 dedicated spaces and loos nearby.
St. Mildred’s Bay car park. https://maps.app.goo.gl/XLYGGaZ9mPN9y22FA?g_st=ic
There’s another park car further along which looked fine too.
Will cost you £11 in cash as App only supports cars!
Easy walk into Margate, gallery nice.

There is plenty of space for mono’s at The Lido car park ( just off Fort Road).

There is free parking at Walpole Bay tidal pool, access down a steep ramp but plenty of space in the car park. The walk to the Turner Gallery is flat and takes 20-25 mins.

Parking in Westgate is the best option.
We have parked in St Mildreds Road before now
You can walk/cycle into Margate, or it's one stop on the train.

Thanks, we did wonder about using the bus or train.
For the train you need Canterbury West station. The bus 8X is the most direct, some of the other number 8 buses take longer as they go through villages.

Thanks for that info, it's very useful. We also thought we might visit the Hornby museum, have you any info on that? It looks as though there is some parking there but not sure if it would be suitable for a 6m van.

Thanks. If we got the bus to the hornsby museum do you know if we could easily get from there to the Turner gallery?

I wouldn’t get too excited about the Turner gallery.

A real opportunity missed for the local community in my opinion.

That's interesting! We've been curious to see it for a long time so thought spending a few days in North Kent was a good opportunity. The pair of us have very different views on art so it will be interesting to see what we think.

I think the Loop Bus connects Margate to the Hospital and Westwood Cross and would pass Hornby.

You can park overnight at Hodges Gap Promenade, off Palm Bay Avenue, down the slope then turn right and park at the end.

as for Hornby, plenty of parking in B&Q car park next door or on the actual road (Enterprise Road)

Also worth a look are the museums at Manston: Spitfire and Hurricane Museum or The RAF Manston Museum, once again parking is no problem.

If you are feeling adventurous you could have a trial flying lesson at Polar Helicopters across the road, or just a sightseeing flight

You can stay for free on lower parade just past the Turner (edits.mixed.cloak) there are generally plenty of spaces looking over the sea. From there you can walk into town or up the hill to cliftonville. If it’s low tide you can see the gormley sculpture from your van.

We’ve spent weekends there even in summer.

The Hornby museum was closed for renovation last time we passed (november) the Turner gallery is hit and miss. We’ve seen some great things there.

The walk from the Hornby factory to the Turner Centre is inly 34-40 minutes. If you catch the train from Canterbury West station then its a 32 minute journey and just a 10 min walk along seafront from station to Turner Centre. Don't forget to check out Margate old town whilst you are there, it's been gentrified lately, which I know some people hate, but believe me when I say Margate was in desperate need of it! Also as others have posted here: easy to park in Westgate-on-Sea and walk into Margate. Westgate is also a delightful little area. Hands up to being biased as I used to live there!

We enjoyed our mini tour of North Kent a couple of weeks ago. Plenty of places to stopover too.
Visited Faversham, Whitstable, Herne Bay, Margate & Sandwich. Only HB disappointed as town looked run down, but great park up and see front.

Margate I found to be a bit run down. The Old Margate is quite nice though.

It is.
Sections of the east of Margate are still a decade off becoming gentrified, but it's getting there, slowly.
There are some wonderful Victorian buildings around.

Broadstairs is worth a visit, it has the best beaches in Kent and the town is the nearest thing to a Cornish fishing village in the south east. However difficult park, even a car in the summer.

Ramsgate is surprisingly interesting, although not the high street area. Good harbour area the UK's biggest 'spoons, good beach and WWII tunnels are worth a visit and a wander around the old part of town, there are some lovely Georgian houses .
Parking, especially to the south of town is easy.

The Loop bus service runs around the Isle of Thanet like a tube, a bus in either direction every few minutes.
