Hi yall,
Prolly been discussed beyond the pale before but here goes anyway. I have an Oyster Vision 1 system which as we know is no use to man nor beast as it just keeps spinning, looking for a Sat. Never bothered me as arial works great (UK). However, currently in Spain with van and my vino induced brain won't accept its useless haha. Is there a solution? Can I try and find an Oyster 11 control box only and switch it? Can I find a sat manually? Back to first question, is there a solution or should I carry on drinking wine and just forget about it?
Regards
Richard

I have a feeling our previous van had vision 1 system and had a fix by Jacksons satellites which zi believe is working to this day, Jock JockandRita might confirm, I don’t know if Jackson’s still offer the fix though, it involved a second LNB and a changeover switch.

What you need is a Jacksons upgrade.
The problem with the Oyster 1 is it is only capable of finding Astra 1 and can't be upgraded to find Astra 2 which is used for transmissions now. Whilst Astra 1 is still there, nothing is broadcast from it.
What they do is fit a second LNB pointed at Astra 2 once it's found Astra 1, and a switchover box for when it's found it.
I've been using it for almost 10 years without problem, except for trees of course

I would go with the wine to be honest. 4 months in and I only switched the TV on twice.

Haha I reckon that's a winner. Very rarely watch a tv, just don't like being beat by money grabbing corporations. My other option was to take off the LNB, paint the dish yellow with a smiley face on and have it spinning round looking happy.

Sax. Both quotes above are spot on, and our inherited Oyster 1 modified satellite system, (by Jacksons Satellite), is still good to go, right down to Northern Spain, and east into Bavaria.
I have said before, that I am loath to get rid, whilst it does the business, however, we do have a streaming facility ready for when we can't get a Astra 2D/E/F satellite signal. 👍

HTH,

Jock. :)

Hi Sax

Apologies for the late reply but it's manic as we get ready for the NEC on Tuesday.
The system you have can be upgraded to the Oyster control centre bundle that, as long as the mechanics of the system and cabling are sound, will allow the system to function as normal again. The cost of the upgrade is £460 inc VAT and this can be shipped with installation instructions for a small carriage fee or installed at our premises for a small Labour fee if you would like to book in with us.

If you would like further information please email me anthony@oystersat-tech.co.uk or call the office on 01858575928.

With regards to the "Jacksons fix" this involves adding an offset LNB to the existing system and using Astra 1 as the primary lock satellite. While this fix will currently work there are two things to remember. Firstly the system will still be using a standard definition tuner so if the standard def signals get turned off it will fail and secondly, using an offset LNB with reduce the signal strength on Astra 2 so therefore will reduce the working footprint area.

many thanks to ChrisL for the tag!

I thought all SD freesat transmissions had already been stopped in January this year ?

Not all. BBC switched theirs off in January and ITV are mid switchover but there are still some standard def channels transmitting. A lot are now broadcasting from HD transponder frequencies however there are currently still twenty standard definition frequencies broadcasting on Astra 2 so with older SD Oyster electronics they can still achieve a lock currently but a HD receiver is required for viewing any and all HD transmissions.

That's interesting, thanks for clearing that up.
Is it likely that Astra 1, although mostly redundant I believe, is it likely to continue to be available for the older systems to lock onto ?

Looking at Astra 1 there are 37 SD frequencies still operating so don't see why not.
