I had a disappointing Christmas in the motorhome this year - no Kings Speech or Wallace and Grommit!

The satellite dish would not raise, and pulling out the fuse and reinserting it after some time didn't do the trick (this is what people have suggested for other faults of a similar nature). All of the wiring I could see from the ground seemed to be OK - I was not at home, so didn't have access to ladders, etc, to check the wiring on the roof.

I can connect to the Ten Haft receiver module using its internal WiFi, and it gives me the warning "Overload protection at elevation motor". Is there any way to reset this? Is there another fuse I need to check inside the motor housing for the satellite dish itself?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Did you test the fuse or try replacing it ?
As said Anthony is probably your best bet and I'm sure he'll reply when he sees this thread

If the fuse is blowing then surely the motor is stuck/rusted? A stuck motor demands more power, current rises and fuse blows as it should.

Fuse was tested (OK) and the put back. That is the fuse on the feature box - which I was hoping would reset the box and it would then work.

Understood, but the fuse isn't blowing - that is, unless there is another one in the motor cowling - I'm not yet in a position to look, and was asking the question to see if I needed to open the cowling or not, or whether I could try to unjamb the motor in some way, or even if there is a known issue causing this. I'm not good with heights, so anything I can do from the ground to eliminate options is better for my mental health! :)

How was it tested ?
Is there any sign of life or completely dead.
Don't get on the roof, I doubt it's anything up there.
Wait for Anthony

I had the same issue - sent it off to Anthony @ Oyster as it seems it’s something they need to access which is in the box that sits under the dish. We have a plan B which is data which is rapidly becoming more Plan A

Visual inspection. Plus take the fuse out and the power light goes out, put it back in and the light comes back on! The fuse on the feature box isn't the problem - the feature box is working as the lights are on, and I can connect to it via its WiFi. Whether it's working correctly is another matter, although resetting it by removing the fuse for some time has not cleared the fault.

Everything ground level appears to be working (unless it's a hard fault in the feature box). So I'm beginning to think it's:

  • a wiring fault (although the feature box appears to be at least talking to the satellite actuator PCB in order for it to get the error code back - unless that's it's 'default' error if it can't talk to the actuator PCB),
  • a PCB fault,
  • a fuse in the actuator cowling has blown,
  • or the motor is jammed and just needs freeing, somehow.
I'm still procrastinating. Putting off the inevitable shakey-kneed trip up the ladder! :)

What's the feature box ?
You obviously have a different oyster system to me.
The fuse your pulling sounds like the fuse on 12v distribution board.
I'd expect there to be a separate fuse where 12v power goes to the oyster control box.

The feature box is the control box for the Oyster system (Oyster V). The fuse I'm pulling is the fuse on the back of the feature box. The feature box has a single coax cable connection to the on-roof satellite dish and actuator. The single cable carries the satellite signal, power, and control signals for the actuator PCB.

There is no separate fuse for the actuator unless there is an internal one at the "other end" of the cable on or near the PCB or actuator. It's fairly common for PCBs that control equipment with motors, etc, to have a quick-blow low Amperage fuse on board.

I think you may be right, with Freely sounding the death knell for Freeview and Freesat in the not too distant future.

Unfortunately for us, we spend quite a lot of times in places that have very weak or non existent mobile signal, as The Reverend One is a British Eventing and FEI steward, and most of the events are in muddy fields in the back end of beyond, where only satellite signals can penetrate. Sometimes not even that when hills and forrests have tha audacity to spring up in the line of sight.

We do have a backup, though - a Kodi system running on a Raspberry Pi with about 8TB of films, music, photos and home movies to fall back on, so all is not lost.

Hi PeterShea , I don't know where you're based, but we had a quick trip up to Welford in Northamptonshire see Anthony OysterTech at Oyster Sat-Tech earlier this year, and he was super-helpful and fixed the problem we had with our Oyster satellite dish - not the same problem as you're having though. Anthony knows the systems inside out, and we had an upgrade done as well, so we were delighted with the service!

Btw, our motorhome is also well accustomed to being in the middle of a field at horse shows, as I volunteer at some of the large horse shows including Royal Windsor, RIHS Hickstead and what used to be "Olympia" now at Excel, and the motorhome comes in very handy! Last year it was parked up at Hickstead beside one of the side rings for a week (photo - you can just see the jumps in the background) - perfect! 😊

Have you taken your motorhome to Badminton - I'm not sure I'd be brave enough, having seen all the mud in the camping fields for the last couple of years?! 🏇🏻

Not to Badminton, but we go to Burghley every year for the last 25. The campsite at Burghley is on the golf course, so it's well drained and immaculate, but no hookup. We have a genny, though. It's a different site if we have a horse running, and hookup is available for an exorbitant price, as if they hadn't already taken enough from us for entry and stabling fees! :)

I can't count the number of times we've had to be towed out of fields by a tractor at other events!
