Hi I posted a thread regards this and thought it I would try again.
We would like to take our motorbike on an easy lifter hydra Trail trailer.
I have rang Oxford and they do not recommend their covers for trailer due to wind damage.
Can anyone recommend a cover suitable for motorbike and trailer and also the best type of straps

The problem with any cover is the potential for damage to the bike.. That is why you rarely see dealers transport a bike in wraps on a trailer...
You would have to find a cover that can not only withstand the wind but also have felt type lining inside..
Unless it is a Hardly Moving the bike wont melt ( ;) ) if it gets wet, and your 'proly batter off with a bucket and sponge once you get where you are going :)

Thanks I wanted the cover to conceal and protect the bike from the elements but what you are telling me the bikes are built for weather elements anyway

Pretty much yes :-)
Long gone are the days of bikes rotting away before your eyes ....

On the contrary, modern stuff has coatings and the like that look great in the showroom, but don't last long when left out in the elements at all. Try claiming for pitted fork legs and the like on a bike that has been ridden in the rain and put away wet...

So is their a bike cover I can get, I have no height room in the garage so it will cover bike on an easy lifter hydra Trail

For what is worth I have done thousands of miles, initially with a scooter ( Honda Bali 101cc) on a Easylifter scooter rack, always with a cover fitted. I have gone through 3 all have been cheepo's 5-6 eoro's . Usually end up tearing so get binned. I have now upgraded to an Easy Lifter Hydra Trail to carry a Honda SH300. I have bought an Oxford scooter cover medium £28, mega expensive for me. We set off next week for France/Spain so will report back on how it fairs!!!!. To date I haven't experienced any damage from any of the cover

Thanks Cakey
I will look out for your updates.
I'm picking up my easy lifter Thursday

I'm picking up my easy lifter Thursday
I picked mine up 4 weeks ago and as an after thought I thought it made sense to have a spare wheel especially as we are off on a longish trip. This I bought from Anthony and picked up last week.

Have you filled the tyres up with sealer

I have in the past but probably not this time. I got some grief from the tyre fitter when I eventually needed a new tyre because the rim was difficult to clean to get a good seal. Lets say the jury is out!!

The strongest and cheapest covers I have found are the heavy duty BBQ covers from Argos. They are completely waterproof and really strong. I use them for covering machinery and scooters all year round.

I have a brand new, unused spare wheel that I bought from Antony with my Hydratrail

Thanks for your kind offer we have already ordered the spare and pick it up on Thursday with the easylifter, could I ask why the hydratrail wasn't suitable, I plan to carry a 160kg motorbike

Scotty (Richard ) and I ordered one each to carry specific bikes. We had to wait while they were built for us.
Both of us had all sorts of fun loading the bikes on them,... went round the block to try it.. When I got back it had twisted the tow bar ( like torsion bar, right along it length ) which was made of 3 X 3 box !
Don't get me wrong. For small bikes up to may be 150ish Kilos I reckon they are great

Ok thanks I will keep my eyes on it as I have collected it today.

Hi Jaws
Just as a follow on from this post, was the issue with the tow bar just that the tow bar was too weak to accommodate the Hydra Lift ? Was it a reputable make? Could the bar have been 'uprated' if need be? I ask as I have bought a unit that I collect on Friday and have as yet to have a tow bar fitted. That being the case I can look for one with a 'beefy' rear section bar ! Incidently if the wheel is still available I'll be happy to take it off you!

regards

I hardly think so !
it twisted a lump of 3" box !!!!
When I had the tow bar fitted by TowTal, Bill the boss man there, actually warned me it might happen as he had seen it before..
He then pointed across his yard to where a hydratrail was sitting in the grass, explaining that is where a customer left it !

I have a hydralift on the rear of my RV it carries a 400 Burgman (just over 200kg) I was a little concerned by the movement so fitted a bracket that comes up under one end (rear end of bike) as the burgman is quite tail heavy . I have covered about 4000 miles since no probs . Some on really bad Polish roads ! But am just going to MK2 version as its too time consuming connecting the stabiliser , It utilises 2x hydralift mounted on a couple of extra tow tongues welded to the rear tow bar about 40" apart so I can just pump[ up both and go . The hydralift sits back about 12" from the tow bar cross member haven't had any probs with twisting .

I also have an oxford cover the xxl version as I have top box and panniers on the bike . It has developed a hole where it rubs on one of the spotlight brackets , my fault as its quite a sharp edge , but I
do put several ocky straps turn cut down flapping .
