:D:DAccording to BBC news the Isle of Skye is bursting at the seams with tourists and on the video sequence the problem comes to a head and it's caused by one of us.......there was only room for one more visitor to the island but this motorhome had 2 people in it...... come on, who was it?

Hope it's just school holiday volume as we hoping to go next month.

We tend to go only before Easter or late September/October these days, the place has been getting busier over the last 10 or 15 years.

Bloody Americans thats why:LOL:
Out of the 2 couples they interviewed both were Americans, tourist tax for foreigners is what they need...:LOL:

U nfortunately not we were there in June staying at site at Sligachan and Edinbane and the place was heaving with cruise boat visitors , hotel folks and motorhomes everywhere ! We spoke to the waitress ( local) and she said locals are fed up with wild campers in every spare space and lay by . She passes a lay by on her way to work which is regularly full of vans and yes they do leave their rubbish . Unfortunately Scotland has become the latest wild camping venue and the seagulls have arrived so I guess it is a matter of time before there is a clamp down and we have no one to blame but ourselves.

There was a lot of incorrect information passed around the media, no doubt promoted by Twitterers, and the Facebook brigade. Skye has been busier recently, especially with Motorhomes and day trippers.
It is a good point that as a community we need to ensure we dont cause any ill feeling towards motorhomers in general by inconsiderate parking and driving habits. Unfortunately from what we have seen there are a steady stream of foreign motorhomes, who are not considerate drivers nor courteous on single track roads.
Sadly we have been touring and self catering on Skye for many years and after a few days in July this year, it was so busy we wont be returning until the holiday season has finished.
We had booked into the Staffin campsite for three nights, as the Hymer is too long and heavy for grass pitches. On arriving there we were faced with 19 european motorhomes on a site with hard standing for no more than 10 max. We were then 'ushered into ' a slot behind the toilet block and behind four of these European vans. It was then explained we would need to reverse our van out early morning to allow these other five vans to get out? There was no more than 2-3 ft between any of the motorhomes, surely that in the interests of safety alone cannot be allowed?
Unbelievably the campsite owner couldn't understand why we were not happy with his suggestion.
We thoroughly enjoy Skye and the locals there are now friends, but it will be a long time before we will return in the summer months.
Looking for pastures new but hard to replace such a fine venue, we never had that problem when the ferries were running, nor when you had to pay for the bridge either.

I saw a group of South Koreans doing a MH trip of Scotland this year (at about 10 mph) once this becomes popular in Asia you won't be getting in anywhere.
