Hi all
So we were off to France tomorrow, from Portsmouth to St Malo.
Today we were told the ferry was cancelled due to industrial action in St Malo.
We have managed to get a ferry to Caen, but it arrives at 10 pm. Can anyone help with a safe place to overnight, please? Any suggestions welcome!
Thanks,
Pete

There’s a great Aire in Fougères close to the castle. We use it as our first stop. It’s a couple of hours max. Or closer that we use on the way home the free park up at Falaise, right by the castle. About 30 minutes away from Caen.

There's an Aire on Rue Des Roquemonts, about 20 minutes from the port
Cheers nige

Are all the Normandy aires likely to be full to capacity this week ?
You might be better driving an hour or two in your direction of travel.

I’ll repost this here as well as there are 2 posts with the same title

Hermanville-sur-Mer is perfect and free parking within 10 minutes of leaving port and safe it’s on park for night normally use the stared parking but last time a couple of weeks ago we used La Ferme. It’s circled in photo. larger car park also free both are very quiet
It looks like you’re going into a housing estate but obviously not and it’s next to what looks like a new camping car park Aire being built

Ordinarily, we go just up the coast, but this year we headed South through (or more correctly around Caen and spent the night in Falaise.
Yes, it's a drive at night but it's well signed and the Sat Nav. took us off at the second Falaise off ramp and straight to the park up under the walls of the town which is worth a visit.
With luck, all those in the town commemorating 6th June will have moved on but the parking place takes a fair few vans etc.

It's the 6th June today. Hermannville is likely to be packed.

There is an Aire right next to the port - 2 mins away. Stayed here loads of times both on arrival and before departure. Newly refurbished for this year - although I would imagine it’s going to be busy due to the D-Day commemorations as it’s right next to Sword beach

Hi all
Thanks for the replies and suggestions, much appreciated.
We had a suggestion from a friend, and we stopped at Aire du Pays d’Argentan on the A88, which was perfect as we were on our way to Le Mans. Avia Service Station, toilets, showers etc .we felt very safe, the only issue there is a height restriction of around 2.5 M so we got into the car park, mostly empty of cars at 11.30 pm by driving into the car park exit.
Thanks also to the funster who spoke to us at the ferry port in Portsmouth, who was going to try to stay below the ramparts in Falaise.
