Hi, thank you.We have often stopped on the Ridgeway above East HenDred
Not far at all from A34
Bit of a trek up once through the village to the car parking area
Patrolled by nuclear police from Harwell down below
Always felt safe
Lovely view

Good location, walking distance to a decent pub for food, but perhaps priced a little high?

Thank you.If you just want a convenient stopover a little further west than the A34, try Devizes in Wiltshire. The council car park along from Wadsworth Brewery, next to the canal moorings is free overnight. Nice and quiet. We stopped in January, this year. One other motorhome there too.
Wiltshire County Council seem generally pretty relaxed about overnight parking. We also stayed in Marlborough car park, which was an excellent stopover in the town centre right against the playing fields.
Another free overnight option close to your route is the carpark directly adjacent to the club site in Salisbury. Again, quiet, safe and hassle-free.
If you want somewhere that is really close to the A34, then try Greenham Common by Newbury in Berkshire. The missiles, silos and runways have all gone and it has been rewilded. Quite an amazing place with sheep, wild cattle and ponies now roaming about, and with lots of pull-ins to overnight in. Only issue is that it is very popular with early morning dog walkers and mountain bikers, so likely to be woken up well before 7am.
Thank you.
Do you have any co-ordinates. But I will look them up anyway.
Can’t leave here until 4pm. Cl we are booked on will be closed . Fancy a relaxed tripI live about half way between the two but I would maybe attempt it without a stopover, only 240 miles mostly motorway but please don't listen to me.
Hi Barti,
We stopped at Devizes a few weeks ago we used the station road car park. It has big spaces for buses etc., which you are allowed to use & daytime parking is a lot cheaper than the other car parks. If you just want a convenient stopover a little further west than the A34, try Devizes in Wiltshire. It's an Autotrail Expedition 66, in metallic black. With very discreet graphics, it's probably the most stealthy factory built motorhome out there!Barti Ddu,
If you dont mind asking, what is the colour if your Auto Sleeper?

Sounds interesting, I’m not sure how to map that out without a real map. I’ll see if I can dig one outWe make this journey a few times a year staying in Lyndhurst, we prefer to use the A346-A388 much quieter road.
I would suggest buying a road atlas, paper maps are a well worth backup to check any Sat Nav route.Sounds interesting, I’m not sure how to map that out without a real map. I’ll see if I can dig one out
Brilliant, thank you so much for taking the time to do that for us.I would suggest buying a road atlas, paper maps are a well worth backup to check any Sat Nav route.
