We're off to France (first time in the motorhome) - Poole to Cherbourg - in early September. Ferry leaves at 8.30am, and we've been advised we need to be there an hour and a half before that as we have a dog. We're travelling down from Yorkshire so we're looking for a suitable overnight stop near the port. Any suggestions?
Many thanks
Colin

Overnight parking is available at the port. When we went over in April there was another motorhome there that had stayed there:

The Commissioners operate their own Passenger Car Park, and it is situated directly opposite the foot passenger hall, New Harbour Road South, Hamworthy, Poole, BH15 4AJ
Luggage trolleys are available in the car park
The car park is an automated ‘Pay on Foot’ system. During the night port security officers undertake random patrols
The long term parking fee is £15.00 per 24 hrs (or part thereof) and is payable prior to EXIT before returning to your car. Payment may be made by cash, debit or credit card at the exit machines
Length of stayPrice
Up to 1 hour£1
Up to 6 hours£8.00
Up to 24 hours£15.00
Overnight caravan and campers£15.00
Poole Harbour Commissioners cannot be responsible for additional parking fees as a result of a delayed ship arrival.

Stayed at the port many times, never been charged. Are they now checking and actually charging?

I don’t know, I found a blog post somewhere from 2018……there were changes listed then but they may not have actually been charged.

Last year we stayed on the Rugby Club carpark in company with several other motorhomes. It was a quiet night, felt safe and only about 10 mins drive to the ferryport. Ideal for walking the dog too as there is direct access to open land with footpaths running down to a tidal inlet. Details here

Thanks for the replies - ferry port would be a last resort, I feel, and sadly the internet tells me the Bakers Arms no longer has overnighting motorhomes. Rugby club sounds interesting, but might look for another pubstop first.
Thanks again.

The fair are here for two weeks at the moment so wouldn’t recommend at the moment.

Best option is to just go as if you were checking in at Portsmouth they allow motorhomes to park overnight, you are not supposed to arrive before 1000 pm after the last ferry has left. We stayed there two weeks ago with no problem.

I live locally and have just telephoned them as I have seen several in there in the last week. They are definitely still allowing motorhomes. (y)
