2010?
With the February show approaching and just reading the MHF Magazine, does anyone else miss the overnight stays they used to do?
It was CAMC club, but it was great and since they have stopped this we haven’t been🤔
To go back to van 2/3 times during day was lovely
I know there are nearby cl’s but it’s not the same
The mag says how the shows are in decline which is a shame, I liked all the accessories part and looking at other vans ect. 🤷‍♀️

Isn’t this typical of the UK though..

A car park the size of a small village that's virtually empty overnight, but can't let self contained mohos stay because of 'regulations'.

They had a pop up site next to the car park last October at the NEC??
We stayed expensive for a bit of concrete but very good for visiting the show.
Also stayed at the Toby just down the A45.

Looked at the Toby but there was a big slope on the car park so gave it a miss.
We ended up just shooting down to the Stratford Race Course after the show for a few nights.

We thought about going last year because there were a few accessories we were considering but then we remembered why we had stopped bothering because the show had become so disappointing. OK there's currently a rise in popularity for motorhomes that may attract some newbies but I think for the show to survive long term it needs to become more of a complete attraction like caravan salon, with a stellplatz/aire etc and something to do in the evenings.

Given that the CAMC has run a site many times, what "regulations" are they?

It would be perfectly possible for the NEC, in association with an exempted organisation, to run a site without any fresh water, waste disposal and electricity. Perhaps the governing factor is that it would not be economically viable.

Oh thank you, didn’t know they still had on-site overnights👍
Probably ridiculous price thou £35-45 🤷‍♀️

Miss the pop up site too and the eating and entertaining marquee. Havent been since they stopped the pop up site.

I agree Jon, it could be so much more than it is now OK if they are selling out and have no more space why should/would they bother  but if they want to grow the show I think they need to look at how they do it in Germany and make it a bit more attractive, it's not like they are short of parking space really.

The popup last year was in two areas separated by a hedge with 2-3 driveways in between.
The first one you enter was tarmac, you drive through this to the next area and it's rough, I doubt it's ever normally used, you also have a road running down the farside which is were we were put as we paid the cheaper of the two prices on offer. You did get electric in the price.

Toby carpark is sloped but its possible to find flatish bits if you look around, but some were parked at horrendous angles for sleeping to me.
No probs in the RV as it's got jack's.
Nice carvery and all you can eat brekky, what's not to like. :drinks:

Same as us. We enjoyed the entertainment and that was what persuaded us to go. Otherwise it's just too packed.

So now it's Warners Shows for us

No sympathy from me, they do like to create their own problems don’t they 🤦‍♂️ When we first went there around 2008, you could just simply overnight in the carpark, which we did.

We stayed at the pop up site a couple of times. On other visits we stayed at a B&B a few miles away and at the Warwick Racecourse CAMC site. When we added the costs of eating at a pub (whilst at the B&B) and cost/time of driving there and back the cost of the pop up site wasn't all that high, comparatively.

We’re these pop sites through CAMC club or Jim?

That’s made me think, it’s a motorhome show, promoting all the wonderful benefits of owning one, the freedom it brings to not have to use hotels etc, but while we’re a huge show asking 10’s of 1000’s of £ for the product, you can’t use it for it’s intended purpose at the actual place they demonstrate them.

🤷🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

I was just thinking the same thing🤔

Why not ask the NEC management?
As mentioned earlier, it would be legally possible for them to run a pop up site without facilities in conjunction with an exempted organisation. All they need is the willingness from the NEC and one of those organisations to staff it and the willingness of enough people to cover the costs.

Last week I was an exhibitor at the NEC. Stayed at Maxstoke Hall Farm - CL.
Only 20 minutes from the NEC, right out in the country, hard standing, end and water. I was the only mh there with 2 owls and a badger. £20 a night.
