Over tourism?

Will be mainly German and Dutch with a smattering of British vans!

The rest I agree with. Many are taking the pee now and the Policia Local need to keep moving people on if they even have chairs out… Parking is allowed, sleeping in parked vehicles is allowed, creating your own campsite isn’t and it needs to be stopped or the rules will change and impact us all VERY negatively..

No it's aimed at all winter visitors, who take over the Costas and wild camp for months on end... unfortunately it's increased in numbers every year since COVID time...rules were made but totally ignored by many Northern European visitors...I believe Brits are in the minority...

Always be a good place to stop for a night or two. But it's been abused by some for years, I've not been for some time but it was always popular with Germans. I've highlighted the relevant bit, The I'm-alright-jack-selfish FLT's How I hate them.

"Despite there being clear signage prohibiting permanent parking, travelers – mainly from the UK, the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium – stay for weeks on end, treating the area as a free campsite.

Many of these tourists set up chairs, tables, and tarpaulins occupying large areas of the coastline, some even illegally dump wastewater into a nearby nature reserve, according to The Olive Press."

Have to say in my experience of many park ups when I lived in Murcia was that the majority of vans were German and Dutch.

Can't remember ever seeing a Belgian van....

Cabo de Gata was a quiet place. Our goto spot on the bike. Last year there were so many vans and overlander trucks. All German. Tables, chairs, huge driveaway awnings. Even washing machines...

I reported a week or two ago about the authorities removing over a hundred vehicles from three large lay-bys on the road between La Herradura and Nerja, towing many away as they were without mot itv or scrap, there were over 40 tents too.
Surprised to say the lay-bys are full again, but why? Because said authorities let them that’s why.
Local campsites, camper stops and aires are rammed could be a reason I suppose but a poor reason, still no water and waste so the cassettes will continue to be dumped over the cliff.
There are free loaders along the prom in LH but they only last a day or so because of complaints from residents and businesses, there’s signs up everywhere but they don’t care.

Its wrong to label individual nationality as the worst its all including brits that are abusing the aire facilities , setting up for weeks at one place stops real touring people from using the motorhome aires the way they were intended to be. It wont be to long before Spain bans wild camping and i for one would not blame them, some of the behaviour is disgusting with no regard for others, we had someone on chairs sitting in a space at an aire trying to stop us from parking as there friends were going to be arriving later that day, it beggars belief that they think its acceptable

That happened to us at the camping car park in Biarritz. Chairs across a pitch. They were french.

Funny how we all moan when Irish "Full timers" arrive on our local parks, car parks and beaches, bemoaning that they don't think the law applies to them

Yet our "full time travellers :whistle2: do the same abroad

I suppose our full timers haven't started eating Hedgehogs and offering Tarmacking services yet:wink:

As Spanish residents who motorhome all year round...it makes our choices very limiting...
Only the last couple of days a local area to us thats got great outdoor pursuits facilities, mountain biking, climbing and walking..which we enjoy, but most of the pitches we taken up by, older visitors who sit next to the van or lay in the sun...
And their reasoning is the coast is full..so they will sit their winter out there...it's free and sunny...and don't care a dam about others..and of course there are the long timers in IKEA carparks in the centre of Murcia..What's that all about I ask..

It costs them nowt to sit on a carpark in 100k £ mohos, that’s what it’s about.
I’d rather pay my 12€ a night for full services thankyouverymuchly.

It seems to be the consensus of opinions are of a negative nature, people are people, but some people are just @r-soles.

Local campsites, camper stops and aires are rammed could be a reason I suppose
I read a newspaper report in spanish last night about this problem in Andalucia. The complaint was that they park up for weeks rather than move. Fair enough Then they stated "All the local campsites were empty" Lies. They are mainly full everywhere. They then went on to state that "2000 more aires/campsites were needed as those existing could not cope????" But you've jsut told me the ones existing are empty???

They wanted them to move ,fair enough but the problem would still remain exactly the same as if everyone moved daily,or every other day, they would just be replacing the ones who had just driven off.
Those doing the complaining in this article where actually two spanish camping & caravanning presidents.
They did qualify the report by stating that there were 5 x the amount of foreign motorhomes in excess of places to stay on aires or campsites. They were both stating that it would "spoil it for the spanish motrhomers" Yes it will but they are what I am now knee deep in here at the commercial centre whereas in years past you would never see one ,especially outside spring/summer time.

I've only been motorhoming for a few years and luckily live on the coast. We mainly go on sites along the Med coast in the winter. We find it really difficult to get on sites during winter months, mainly full of Germans and Dutch. Not so many UK vans on sites, has this changed much since brexit?
