over 75 and car hire in Spain

Just back from a flying holiday visiting friends in Torrevieja , Hired a car from Alicante airport with Zest car rental who are very reasonable , 9 days with their insurance was £90 so a tenner a day , and only in Spain (as far as i know) if you are 75 or over they charge you €7.99 a day which almost double the price of you hire.
Edit just done a quick check and also with some hire companies in Faro.

Had a look a few months ago about hiring a car for the 80 days or so that we are in Spain but could not find anything reasonable due to being 77. Bought a Smart car and trailer instead as hopefully we will be able to use it for year or two yet. No charges for either the trailer or car at Imperium in Villajoyosa just the extra work of travelling with it through France.
