Getting Better
FIAT Ducato 2012 out side temperature sensor is all over the place, I get readings from -30 to +85 but mostly
- - - - on the read out.....

I think I’ve found the actual sensor but the wiring goes into the loom so can’t see any plug to disconnect it...

Any suggestions..?

Cut the sensor out and buy a new one. It will be the sensor (thermistor) not the wiring (y)

Had just the same issue in our Peugeot boxer based van. Temp kept going all the way up and all the way down. What finally sorted it was undoing vehicle battery for 30 mins then connect up again. Temp gauge then worked normally again.

On the Hymen it will be a Schaudt unit, same system as the Frankia. On mine it is the internal temperature sensor that is faulty, settled down at -40c :cold:

Sensor is usually in drivers side mirror if it's a standard. Fiat cab

No suggestions, but would love to know where the outside fiat temp sensor is on the A class hymer, ours is also variable on a 2013 reg fiat. Tried hymer tech guys stand at Dusseldorf show and they were unable to say where.

It’s here on mine, it pokes out of a lump of silicone coming down the side of the front frame... if you where to look up behind the fog light you may see it..

@Just smiffy are you referring to the vehicle’s temperature sensor or the habitation (control panel) temperature sensor?

The answer will be different in each case.

On ours, the hab sensor is by the retractable step (and hence is directly below the control panel).

@Just smiffy
Many thanks, have been looking on and off for 2 years now. And details of replacement just icing on the cake.
Just got to go to van on a dry ish day.....

Yes, but given that:
  • you’ve posted on a MH forum
  • Most MHs are built on Fiat Ducatos
there is some ambiguity.

I was trying to help/clarify.

Your response could have provided clarification instead of trying to alienate those reading your post.

Merry Christmas :xdoh:

Ok, its been a long time.
Hymer A class, couldnt find the fiat external temp sensor.
@justkidancient put the Fiat Ducato 2016 converters and upfitters manual into the resource section.

Section 3.29 shows plug and socket Y001LA.

Pin 5 is ground and pin12 is the signal.

I cut the signal lead and connected a thermistor to pin 12, other leg of thermistor to ground.

Thermister is an NTC 10K 500 mW 3977k
The 3977k refers to the "curve" of the resistance at different temps, if you get a 3550 temp will be right at 25 deg c but wrong at , say, 5 deg c.

On our hymer A class, lhd, there is a hymer panel to left of driver to fill space between dash and door. I removed this and lurking in there was the plug Y001LA. Connected length of twin cable to the thermister, one wire to plug pin 12, other to earth.
Thermister currently on outside of starter batt box, ok when engine is cold but is affected by exhaust heat when running. Am confident will work ok when placed out of range of exhaust etc.
Never did find original sensor......
The thermistor came from ebay, £2.89 for four of them. Be careful to get NTC 10K 500mW and ideally b3950,

Sorry its been a while but do like to complete a thread.

Thanks to postings from others that helped me to pull info required together.

Just to add about thermistors, they are always measured at 25°c so if you're measuring one to find out what it is, it has to be at 25c to get the resistance it is named after ? if that makes sense ?

Remove the power windows and mirrors console from the drivers door and the plug for the sensor is one of 2 plugs
It will be the 2 wire one which is what my Peugeot boxer has 👍

Not sure if you realise but this is a 5 year old thread
