Hi Very keen on buying our first motor home Fiat Ducati 2.3 Swift Lifestyle 590rs 2005 Any advice / things we should look out for ?
Thank you

Is it a private sale or dealer.

Check for damp damp and more damp.

Take someone with you who knows their way around the vehicle (assuming you might not of course, or why would you be asking the question:)).

Next and probably the most important is payload. Check this as it has a big effect on happy motorhoming.

Then there's mileage, last service and last habitation check, date the cambelt was last changed, size of fresh water tank, grey tank etc etc etc.

More advice will be along shortly I'm sure, good luck.

Post pictures when you get it:)

490kgs is more than some offer, but it ain't a great deal of weight before you'd be illegal.

Looking at the picture it has the rear box on the bike rack. The rack frame and empty box will all eat into the initial weight allowance by quite a bit. It's also probably rated at a max carrying load of 50kgs, that's if the mountings will be rated for the same load weight.

You'll need to consider what you'll be putting into the motorhome, 2 adults, children, a dog, table and chairs, food and clothing etc. Then there's the water and fuel at 1kg a litre (although an element of fuel may well have been calculated into the plated weights).

Depending on the chassis and your licence you could look to upgrade the weight and that would assist no end. A lot of us have gone through the upload process. It may involve updating/uprating the suspension.

Don't forget to look at the dates on the tyres as it could be another bartering point, they really should be changed at the 5 year point, or so a lot of motorhome owners will swear by, as does the cambelt.

Don't forget to check inside the storage lockers for damp as well, as water can get in if the seals are worn.

Good idea to get a damp meter and go check everywhere. Damp is an expensive problem to fix, so if you find any, then I'd walk away and take my money elsewhere, but it's down to what price they want and how you feel about this.

Any more pictures?

Looking on the Mot database it’s probably had new tyres and there has been a few minor fails but all put right.

Hi PP Bear couple more photos attached
Thanks for the extra pictures. Made me laugh to see the peg in the toilet, was the previous owner a curry lover

Just so you know, if you put a "@" in front of a Funsters name, they'll get alerted to the post (like this @Cocoa) so @h1ghway1 will then see your post above. Failing that you can always quote a post.

Apologies if I'm teaching you to such eggs:)

Looking at the second picture of the rear, I hope I don't offend if I say it looks a well used, if unloved motorhome.

There's a dent in the rear right at the join and is that a gouge in the rear right panel. This all corresponds with the rear bathroom, which looks to have had the floor refurbished too.

Please check all these out for any possible signs of water ingress, I'd hate you to spend hard earned cash and then more on expensive repairs.

get under neath and check the floor all round about 8"from the side as this is the years that they did not seal the side panels

Hi Everyone We have made a more expensive and accepted offer on an older motorhome but has been very well looked after No Dents, Marks, Damp etc It also has Air Suspension, Apparently this is to provide a more comfortable ride but I wonder whether it also provides stiffer suspension when loaded? @PPbear @h1ghway1

Apparently the Max user payload is 490kg Avarage?
Don't be fooled by that. there is no such thing as an average motorhome or payload. You need to know what yours is. Insist they take it to a weighbridge and get a ticket of actual weight. Then you will know how much payload you really have.
