Getting better
Hi all helpful Funsters,
Another stupid question?
Do I need to carry original Docs (V5,Insurance,Van ownership, etc) when travelling to France for our first ever trip in June? Or will photocopies be Ok?
We had a horrific holiday experience, admittedly some years ago in Eastern Block and had Passports and travel Docs stolen. What a nightmare being unable to travel without them.

Yes you do,originals are a must.Keep copies with you just in case, even if you should need parts for your van they ask here to check numbers.
Exactly the three things you mention.Chances are you won't need them but should you be stopped for even a "controle" routine check you will.
Have a good trip and don't forget,you don't need a breathalyzer :).

Here's what I have done, and will do this time:
Original documents in the safe in MoHo.
Copies in a plastic wallet in an accessible cupboard.
Scanned copies in Google Drive folder.
If I hadn't had a safe, I would have put the originals in a sealed plastic wallet behind a screwed-down panel or other inaccessible space: if they are really needed, a bit of dismantling won't be a problem!

Thanks guys
Fortunately don't need MOT yet. Always carry driving licence.
Great advice about copies and scanning WSandMe
Thanks for your continued support

Shouldn't MOT and driving licenses for all drivers be added to that list ?
Your quite right,we are required to carry a driving licence and thought it would be normal to carry.Been out of the UK for so long and forgot you don't need to there,or do you now?

In mine I can put 'em inside a blind when I roll it up.;)

Hi @Jimbo50 .
As the others have said , keep originals in a safe or safe place , photo copies handy.
Back in 2005 our trip to Brittany in our moho , we were touring with another couple also in their moho , we were both flagged down on our way back to Dunkirk , by 3 motorcycle gendarmes & escorted to the next layby , where they went through all of those items ,no prob for us both except our friends objected to them taking his license ,passport etc off to a waiting gendarme vehicle to be checked , this obviously irritated the gendarmes , they then proceeded to go through his vehicle with a fine tooth comb , tyres lights etc , causing us to be delayed by half an hour.
Coincidence we are over to Brittany again this June .
