Oradour sur glane

Was the slave trade any less cruel, or the attempt to decimate native Indians in America, Aboriginals in Australia?

There are many other such atrocities.

I may not subscribe to your version of history but I am a historian. Perhaps go back to the early part of this thread where I gave a background to the massacre at Oradour, which is what this thread is about. You, sadly, chose to bring in the B word, Donald Trump and Nigel Farage.
Personally I would like to think that people would learn from Oradour, Tulle, Lidice and so many other places and learn to be tolerant instead of name calling and polarising. Your posts could get this thread moved which would be sad
 
While I agree with the name-calling bit, a discussion about how to stop such atrocities ever happening again, and the perceived or actual threats to that aim is surely a natural and desirable development of this thread? Oradour was personally mind blowing when I went. However we are at risk of remembering only that experience of visiting, and not what led up to it.

Absolutely there are and, fortunately, in most of the places you have mentioned things have moved on. Sadly the slave trade carrys on in spite of Britains efforts in passing the Slave Trade Abolition Bill in 1807 with a vote of 283 and 16 against

It ISN'T my version of history.

It's simply history where America and the British are renowned for hypocrisy sadly.

To be brutally honest I actually can't see the hype about oradour despite visiting it recently. In the grand scheme of ww2 and the needless deaths it was after all one village. And a lot worse happened elsewhere. Its a tourist attraction like many parts of France.

You might think , or wish people learn from it but in general they don't. Hence the many other wars and atrocities since. Foresight would have been good , I mean the signs were there on the rise of Hitler the Same way as the signs are there now of future conflicts.

There's no reason at all for this thread to be moved. Other than it wasn't really motorhome chat relevant in the first instance.

My first post was in direct response to another and my subsequent posts have been the same.

I won't change your blinkered view and you won't change my opinion either so 🤷

I'm not aware that I have posted any view, blinkered or not. You have stated your opinions. I have posted historical, and researched, facts.
Sadly I'm at the point where I want to withdraw from this thread. I say sadly because it is obvious that so many Funsters have been affected by their visits to Oradour and I find it interesting and moving. At no point have I tried to make any ideological points.
We don't agree, and won't agree on our interpretation of history and, in general, that is a good thing. It's when, and yes here I am making an ideological point, either end of the ideological spectrum cancels the views of others that problems occur

I haven't cancelled your views.

But you chose to object to my view that trump , farage and various others hold very similar traits to Hitler and rather than ponder on the past that can't be changed think ahead to the future which certainly can.

You chose like a few others to pounce on my view and tell me I'm wrong.

I guess time will tell

Unfortunately this sort of thing happens even in this day and age
40000 women and children killed in Gaza because the other side believes that they have a right to do it.

The problem is no one is reporting this because reporters are not being allowed into the country to report what’s going on

Honestly this thread is about as its title suggests `Oradour Sur Glane’ . Best not to go anywhere else with it ,that’s what the belly locker is for.
