Anyone know where I can order a single (simple) 3D part do be printed? I’ve looked online but it mainly for prototyping or batches of hundreds! I don’t have a 3D file but can easily describe the shape and dimensions. It’s basically a wedge so I can mount a dashcam clear of the Remis blinds. Thanks

Thanks, yes I did think about that initially, if printing is cost prohibitive l’ll have a hunt around for a suitable chunk of plastic.

Look up polymorphic plastic on Amazon.
It comes as granules which you drop into hot water. It becomes a solid mouldable clear plastic you can shape however you want.
Then when it cools it solidifies into a rock hard solid white plastic.

This is great for simple shapes. For more complex shapes you obviously can't beat 3D printing.

Thanks everyone, PaulandChrissy have kindly offered to make the part for a very reasonable price, so all sorted but I appreciate all the suggestions and ideas.

I will still investigate the polymorphic plastic as sounds interesting and might come in handy for future projects.

As will I! Never knew such a thing existed.

Well, that's my next "university of YouTube" session sorted then :hi5:

I have been using it for over 15 years. Got me out of many a pickle. Once you know about it you keep finding uses for it :)

Just ordered some!

How have I never heard of it before?
Just in case you haven't heard of it. Also look into Sugru a mouldable silicon substance. Starts off like a putty, but ends up being a solid, resilient and heat resistant rubber like substance.

I don't keep this in stock anymore as it does go off eventually even if you keep it in the fridge. But worth keeping bookmarked.

I have used it for rubber feet, grips on tools and many other uses.

The best one yet was when I dropped the lid on my whistling kettle and the ring around the knob on top smashed. The knob would not screw down tight enough and would wobble and eventually fall off.
I applied Sugru around the ring and it has held up for just shy of 10 years now without any sign of degradation. This in spite of it being on the top of the kettle and having very high temperatures applied to it.

Thanks Gromett

An ex-army friend of mine introduced me to Sugru many years ago. He was such a passionate advocate of it that I always thought he should be on some sort of commission!

I love the idea of the polymorphic beads as part of an emergency toolkit though. The Pot Noodle of the repair world!

Don't forget superglue and baking powder. It's not only great for repairs but can be drilled, sanded, screwed into etc
Brilliant for doing repairs on cupboard doors where the hinges have pulled out for some reason ...

Will do.

It'll be a while though as I ordered it from a well known purveyor of cheap imported goods so it probably won't get here for a month :D2

Looks great I'm going to have to find a project!

We have had all sorts of this stuff and glue off temu and found it's better than anything we can find in the UK, we think it's probably because it has got stuff in it that is banned here.
We have some stuff that has to be mixed like body filler, it will mend anything, exhausts ,water pipes , hammer stails anything that needs sticking.
