Yesterday at a supermark my Revolut card was rejected, but I put it on again and it worked. Today on a motorway, it wouldn't work at all, it did take my Nationwide credit card, which is my backup. I have put money on the Revolut to cover the trip, I was hoping would all be good. The first time I used the Revolut for fuel, it took €200, even though it was only €43 for fuel. The extra has gone by today

Yes, some traders still have problems with Revolut ( not just in Europe). It seems to depend on the age of the reader machine. No way out except to have a backup card. I still think Revolut is the best, most flexible way to go when abroad. There are other ‘no fee’ cards, but their exchange rates aren’t (IMO) so good. The 200€ for fuel is a common test charge that should be corrected by the actual charge, but it sometimes takes a bit of time.

Just be careful of the spending limits on Revolut:

Fee-free spending abroad - Free up to £1,000/month then up to 1% fee

ATM withdrawals abroad - 2% fee (min £1) over 5 withdrawals or £200/month whichever comes first

Remember añso that the fuel stations will retain 150€ + until fuel is taken & the correct amount is recorded. Each failed attempt will deduct the same retainer as well. & in France many stations have a dislike for any card that isn't French
