I've got a old truck Tom Tom .
Was second hand when I bought it haven't use it for 8 years as it wouldn't update.
What's the best way to dispose of it.
Shall I just chuck it in the bin or is there a better way possibly recycle.

I still use a Garmin Nuvi from 2007 (never updated) as a backup satnav. I wouldn't dream of chucking it away. You get used to driving on new roads that aren't even in the map database. It is still quite usable because most major roads are basically unchanged.

If your TomTom has a lithium battery that complicates the disposal. You should remove the battery first.

Most likely your local recycling center will have a small electricals recycling area that will take this sort of thing (anything electrical up to about the size of a microwave typically). I keep a plastic box in the garage where I dump this sort of stuff and then take it to the recycling center every six months or so once a few things have piled up.

cheers,

Robin

My 2007 screen mounted Tom Tom is better than my built in Zenec sat nav from 2018!

And I still have a first generation Garmin designed for walking bought in the USA in 2000.
It still gives height and direction and location in long/lat or OSGB.
So for working out exact locations it's as good as any new toy out of the box.
(And for remote mountain areas, like Snowdonia, better than a mobile phone)

I've got an old TomTom Go bought s/h off Ebay back in the mid 2000's so the maps date back to around then. Used it all the way down to Alicante and back in 2010 and it worked fine although it showed me doing a couple of hundred miles through fields coming up the A75 through France. Still use it in OH's runabout from time to time. It'll still get me too a specific street in Southampton/Portsmouth if I need it.

Still have a Garmin Streetpilot 2610. Think I paid about £800 for it when new. Not used it for around 15yrs or more.
