Hi my late brother had a BSA in the early sixties and I can see his old number plate in an old photo I have tried DVLA to check but it just went blank the number is ORU 2 the O may be a D, any help would be greatly appreciated TIA.

Neither show up on a car tax check

The DVLA do regular registration plate sales. That sort of number would probably be up for sale. I will keep an eye out.

Many thanks for that unfortunately he died when I was 18 months old and this old photo was the only record of his bike so it would be nice if it still around

I think back in the 60s a number was issued and that was that.
The bike may have been scrapped but DVLA not informed so the number just disappears.
I just checked my 1st bike and there's no record of it yet a car from a TV show is still on record but hasn't been taxed or tested for over 34 years

That's an interesting site, I've found a couple of my old plates on there a Ford Popular (or it may have been a Prefect) from 1969 and a Hillman Imp from 1972.

More useful information many thanks, yes Bournemouth was our local area, mind you it was an old bike when he bought it.
You can find the original registration authority of a vehicle from The Kithead Transport Archive and some details of what archives are held in various places.
