Old enough to know better

Does the land owner give you permission to churn up his land and destroy natural habitat of numerous wildlife ?
Sorry but can't see where the pleasure or enjoyment is in that.
Each to their own I suppose, good luck as long as you have permission to do it.

Nature is amazing, look how it gets all those trees in straight lines, amazing.

Reminds me of 15 years ago, for years of doing the same. As for ripping up natural habitat you were having too much fun to give a shi*

A bit low on byways  Must be an open access area, right?
Sounds tiring but you've engines

edit: an analogy to my past-times is skiing. That is always tiring until you learn to ski at a 1/2 decent level.
Then it's tiring 'cos you're trying to break a leg or worse on moguls 🤔

I'd soon become cream crackered, having to keep picking up the bleddy bike all the time. It looks great fun though. :)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I wonder why forestry contractors don't use conventional 4x4 tractors?

You need to ditch 😉 the route planner!

Ian 😎

You must be fit to be able to pick a bike upi that much :giggle: good fun

Reminds me of when I used to race in enduros ( Scotland) the good old days

How are they damaging it , it was mud before they got there and it's still mud , the natural habitat of what , worms

Get a sidecar
I tried that green laning , in the sidecar several years ago, wasp enduro outfit and I thought I’m not going to be able to hold on, great fun but I stuck to my 2stroke enduro bike.

Presumably the land belongs to the bikers so what they do to it doesn’t matter :tmi:

There's a lot of " Greenlanders" round our way .
They certainly upset some folk.
The council are taking unusual steps to outlaw driving on some previously legal byways. ( Public Space Protection Orders)
The police are also targeting antisocial driving on the byways.
This report says this is the first vehicle to be sized in the area but it's not. There have been at least two more recently for various offences

Was the OP on green lanes (byways)?
Not sure. They came across some pretty undefined areas

In the previous century I’ve been green laning with a group of Land Rover owners.
Had to negotiate obstacles on route. Unexpected fences, etc.
One obstacle was a ford on a byway through a recently ploughed field.
It was a hard crossing and lots of mud was flung about.
The police were called by the land owner and it resulted in a court case that the vehicle owners lost. We’d damaged the farmer’s irrigation 🤔
The fine wasn’t too bad split around the ~10 vehicles but given that we’d gotten into trouble on valid routes I’m not interested in making up my own routes on private land. YMMV 😐

I wonder if those that are happy to cross other peoples property without permission would be happy if folk rode bikes through their garden.

I rode Greenlanes ( RUPP’s and Byways) from 1980 to 2009 without any trouble from the police, never stopped once, a few farmers would try to stop us but when they realise you know you are legally allowed they are usually ok.
If it’s a legal route why should you not use it as long as the vehicle is legal.

I agree. Provided its used sensibly and with consideration to other entitled users, regardless of their mode of transport-horse, cycle, walking etc.
A lack of care and respect is the most likely reason councils have taken these new powers.
