Hi all going to see if anyone had had much luck reading the VAN with an OBD reader or a computer.

I have a 22 model fiat ducato 140 9speed 2.2 and have a nice set of headlights with built in LED daylights and when I plug them in the dash says check daytime running lights.

I was told to buy a cable from Gendan Ltd and a SGW buy pass also a grey cable
Done all this purchased Alfa OBD and Multiecuscan but no luck connecting even buypassing the SGW behind the glovebox

All I want to do is go into the BCM and enable LED daytime running lights so I don’t get an error.
Surely we should have the ability to read our own ECU

My mate tried to map it and can’t as his machine won’t read and the autel scanner and the snap on scanners won’t entertain it

I also heard you can get an unlocking code from Fiat but not sure about that.
I reached out to stellantis but they said they can only read Peugeot and Citroen ecu,s

Any ideas people.

I have put the factory lights back on and it may be just live with it

You need a gateway device as well as the OBD cable. Trying to bypass the secure gateway is fraught with issues that will likely only become apparent if you later need to have faults diagnosed. The security gateway is there to prevent people hacking the wiring to steal the van and to prevent people from tinkering with settings. The gateway device is available from reliable stockists though if you insist

Your other solution would be to wire the DRLs separately via a relay. Although not ideal, would work when the key is on and an acc signal supplied. Can also be wired to turn off if dipped lights come on

Interesting thread. I have the 2021 model which has the secure gateway. I have successfully read trouble codes from the OBD socket, but the gateway blocks trying to set adjust anything - when I tried to get a key made by an auto locksmith he couldn't program it to the van (at the time, the info on where the SGW was located wasn't easy to find).

I had assumed that the bypass could be a temporary thing - ie you disconnected the gateway and plugged in the bypass cable, did what you wanted and then reconnected the gateway. I haven't tried, but would be interested to hear if you find a way to get things working. Do you have MultiECUScan/AlfaOBD reading data correctly from the normal OBD socket without the gateway bypass?

cheers,

Robin

I have the bypass cable and still no joy plugged all different scanners in no luck
Just spoke to fiat and they say a scanner should read through the OBD but not my van
I do have a heads up display plugged into my OBD and that works fine.
I have some knowledge of coding the Vag com world when I had a vW but this is leaving me scratching my head my thoughts are leave the standard lights in but I would love to read the ECU even for future issues
Big1 what is this module you speak of ?

Ok that's good, and do you have the OBD reader cable with the adaption specific to FIAT? From memory one of the wires needed disconnecting or switching with another. If you search ebay, you will see mention of the adapted cable, usually marked specific to fiat

I think so as I have the cable with the grey cable from Gendan as they specialise in all OBD stuff but I think it’s van related as the normal snap on scanners type stuff won’t work either

I have not got the time right now to research what the gendam grey cable is intended to do at the moment. Do you recall it mentioning Fiat/Alfa specific?

Well you will never believe it I just installed OBDwiz and connected my cable bobs your uncle it ranks to my van reads and writes as it had an old error and I deleted it so a free bit of software fixes everything as it installed the drivers to make my paid software work

I fannied about for ages and it seems like it was a driver issue on my windows laptop
still doesn’t explain why the snap on unit won’t work
I used the ex main cable and not yet had success with the grey or blue converter cable but will report back asap
