On our last trip a German couple suggested Nuremberg as a good destination to look around . Any funsters agree / disagree and also a recommendation for a stop close to the touristy bit would be appreciated

We stopped there last October yes worth a stop.
We stopped in the park south of the city loads of interesting Hitler stuff there. Coordinates on the photo its on Camper Contact.

Yes if you like that kind of history the park that Lenny talks about is a treasure trove.

Stand on the same plinth that Hitler addressed the masses at the Zeppelin Field (make the hair stand up on the back of your neck) , see the imitation Roman coliseum that they never got finished, see the parade ground (now used for driver training), see part of the Avus race circuit.

It's a barrel of laugh's - not.

The Documentation Museum which tells the full story of the rise and fall of the Nazi party is excellent. It gives the facts plain and simple, horrifying though they are. One of the best museum presentations of its type I've seen. It's a small part of the mega, unfinished Congress Hall. Loads of parking down the side of the building. There's a glass platform on the top floor where you get a great view of the Congress Hall unroofed interior, the scale is mind boggling. Good cafe as well. https://museen.nuernberg.de/dokuzentrum/

Janine Nuremberg made an appearance on our map from our Danube adventure last year and dependant upon where else youre going the map may be useful to you if are cycling along rivers etc
Nuremberg is probably going to be passed by us again this year but it is certainly on a C plan for the way to Austria but there are many roadworks appearing on the main road if you head that way from Aachen direction which are putting me off at the moment.
Again, dependant on where you are going after or before Nuremburg you may want to look at the Danube Journal

I've stayed at the Knaus campingplatz Nuremberg
Felt rather sad and mucky, but close to the "crystal cathedral" which is awesome (in a scary way)
