We generally stay overnight at some places up here in Scotland without any worry or hassle. We are off to Europe in late August/September and would also like to visit some of the NT places around Kent and Hastings before we go over/under the channel.

Is it possible to stop overnight in their carparks ? If not would it be better for us to join one of the clubs ? (we've never been members).

We generally stop on aires where possible.

Not sure you can stay in any of the NT properties around Kent.

A nice visit would be to Canterbury. You can stop for a couple of nights on the Old Dover Road Park and Ride and it has water and waste dump. £4 per day so one overnight stay is £8 or 2 nights is £12. That includes free P&R bus into the centre of Canterbury as much as you want. Otherwise there are plenty of Britstops around the area.

There are not very many NT sites that allow it.

It has a barrier that reads your number plate. Make sure you pick up the ticket that the machine serves up as that is your bus ticket. The usual motorhome area with the ater and dump is on the left as you drive in. But we find that can be a bit noisy what with buses etc. So we drive straight on and then turn right into the overflow area, which will probably be empty and we just park wherever we want. No petty rules like staying in one parking space.

You pay at the machine by the office by cash or card. You just type in your number plate. Then just drive to the exit and the barrier will open once it has read your number plate.

Most of the area of the dockyard is covered in new yuppie flats and houses as well as a shopping centre and restaurants. The historic bit is quite small but not sure if you are still allowed to stay there overnight.

There is a small Spitfire & Hurricane Memorial Museum at Manston Airport. They may let you stay. The Battle of Britain Memorial is just outside of Folkestone heading towards Dover. Not sure they will allow you to stay, but a couple of hundred yards away is the Valiant Sailor pub, which allows stays as long as you eat there.

Yes we ve stopped at the Valiant Sailor, ok meal and sociable and very handy for the tunnel, but quite a small carpark. It is the Manston one that are supposed to be open to a stay but not tried it.

Just to clarify peterc10 is referring to Canterbury P+R in post#6 as well as post#2.
