After deciding we want to upgrade our 2005 motorhome and finally getting my husband to agree, I have been scouring lots of adverts and dealers. All to no avail. We want something with 2 single beds or a double where you can actually get around the sides and not have stairs or a ladder up to it. And some external storage. Main problem seems to be that we don't want to size up to anything with double wheels and which needs a C class license. Hubby currently has this but as we are 68, he doesn't want to swap the van and then have the problem of reapplying for it at 70. Also we dont really want to pay more than £45k. And we would prefer it to be located within a 50 mile radius of Lincolnshire or less if possible. All a big ask - you say? When I was just idly browsing I saw a few, but as is sods law, now they are like hens teeth. I have to laugh at Facebook Marketplace though. All the scam adverts showing 2020 and younger motorhomes for less than 5 grand. Who in their right mind would answer the adverts? Guess I shall have to keep searching. If not, we are happy enough with the one we have. Thank you for reading. Mrs Grumpy of Saltfleet:LOL:

We have an Elddis 175 which would fit your bill, nice full length sofas to stretch out on during the day, and we roll out a Duvalay on them at bedtime, or a Elddis 185 if you wanted fixed single beds that you can leave made up.

I would not limit your search area to only 50 miles.
I think more like 200+ miles would be more realistic.

We bought our motorhome from a dealer nearly 300 miles away, in the Midlands, and then in order to get it insured drove from the dealer 200 miles to the West Country to get the alarm fitted, before then driving another 200 miles home.

Given the amount of money you are spending, I would not rule out motorhomes in Scotland or Northern Ireland either.
Its worth travelling for the right vehicle.

I have similar requirements but also need it to be step free and have 4 berths and 4 travel seats.

I'm hoping the driving licence changes will actually happen and the C1 renewal at 70 becomes obsolete - or at least part of the normal renewal.

Have you looked at Fuller Leisure, they are based on the edge of Nottingham and normally have a decent amount of stock

My thoughts would be to speak someone in Camper UK in Lincoln. If they haven’t got what you need they will probably advise at to what model/brand would suit your needs.
Happy hunting

I really would not hold your breath on this one.

I agree in the long term it's likely to happen, but it needs to happen on a very wide basis.
As a minimum that is the Entire EU, plus all the non EU bordering countries such as the UK, Switzerland, Scandinavia, the Balkan countries, Turkey etc.

You can not have a situation where a vehicle driving from Ireland to Turkey via Greece, passing through the UK, Switzerland and several Balkan countries where the laws are different each time they cross a border.

So everyone has to pass the same laws and within the same period.

That's why I said I hope it happens!!!!

Martin will be 70 next year and I no longer have a licence.

With our specific requirements for any future motorhome we may well end up with a custom build but until our home circumstances settle we will probably holiday on small cruise ships and have other breaks in hotels.

If you end up wanting a specific model like we did you may have no choice but to go 200 miles, we did. All the exeamples of the motorhome we ended up buyng at time were Southampton, Wales, and Exeter (3 on market at time).

Remember motorhomes are NOT made in large quantities, so if you want a non-popular model, there often will only be 2-3 nationwide on sale at any time (or less). A friend buying a Rapido had a choice of 1 nationwide for the model they ended up buying.

Similar to the Eldiss 175 mentioend above, the Bailey 66-2 is a similar 2 singles that convert to one large king if you desire. We usually keep them as singles -> and theres a trick, you can leave the bed made up, cover it in a throw and still use it as a sofa without any crumbs or anything impacting the bed, making the "make beds up for evening" take no time at all. We just pull off the throws, stow one sides sofa cusion in the shower, and the other one drops down (as you reduce the aisle a little and can have a wider single for one of the two people).

It's under 3500 ton, so no need for a C1 license, and it's near impossible to overload it (and we HAVE tried). The lockers are surpriringly big and cover us with food/drink + clothing in winter and a awning .... for about a week away, need more food and to wash clothing after that.

2019 euro 6 models ranged from £45k to £55 last summer ... and there are older (still euro 6) 2017 models that were cheaper. The prices have held however since last year, and you may have to look around for a good example.

2 Single bed layouts seem to be very popular since we got ours, so you may struggle with availability, as mentioned last summer there were only 3 on sale at time... one 2017, one 2019 and one 2020 model at time. We saw them all and made offer on the 2019.

There is one external locker, but to be honest you can access anoter one just as large under one of the passenger benches -> the other side has one locker with water tank in (which we have room on top for our external solar array) and one locker with the truma in. Plus lockers all around the top of van which we use for clothing.

Yes M-J we saw this. It is a bit wide, we aren't sure if it will go down the side of the garage to get into the back garden. Also it is quite a bit longer than our current one. Thanks for the suggestion. We will have to measure properly!
