Very sorry to hear this, I hope it all goes well for you.

Good luck with the treatment speedy recovery :xThumb::xThumb::xThumb::xThumb::xThumb:

From my experiences of 7 years ago I prefer the word believe to the word hope. Your Clinicians know that some treatments can be difficult for patients, as well as expensive, but prescibe them because they believe they will be good for you. Staying positive is not always possible but it helps if you can believe it will all be worthwhile.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. As others have said the treatments are getting better all the time. Think beyond this and replan your trip for next year, or take up @Popeye ’s offer and sail there ( well maybe part-way)

Not a nice Christmas pressie. Look to the future, lots of funsters to give you moral support, advice, even get on your nerves. All of them will give you something to think about while you're undergoing treatment. Hoping your future Christmases will be totally wonderful.

Son-in-laws step-mum was diagnosed with it about 2 years back .Had radio therapy at RD&E ,Exeter & operated on at Derriford ,Plymouth. Has made a full recovery. They even got married in the middle of it all ! She did a blog about if you want the link I'll post it.

Thanks for that - I would love to read her blog - post it or pm me whatever suits

Thanks again :)

Not the best news to receive but you now have a diagnosis and treatment plan to follow to get yourself back up to full speed. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Hi Guys

We were supposed to fly to New Zealand today to spend Christmas & New Year with our son near Auckland but unfortunately it is not to be. I have had some medical tests and I wanted to wait for the results before "going public"

Not good news I'm afraid - I have been diagnosed with Cancer of the Oesophagus and I am about to start the long haul of chemo & radio therapy and possibly an operation

I will keep you informed as to my progress and whilst I don't intend to "publish it to the world" I thought I would let my fellow funsters know

Sad to hear your news @Teuchter.....take heart though, my brother had his operation last May...he had thyroid cancer and also had nodules on his oesophagus...he had major surgery and is now almost back to his old self....also my daughter's father in law has had the same diagnosis as you in June this year...he first had chemo then a break before his surgery...he has now recovered well from surgery and is about to have a round of chemo.....he has had a good prognosis also...so take heart...it will not be too long before you too will be on the mend. My heart goes out to you!!!

Good luck with your treatment.

Hi Teuchter
Sorry to hear your news but please keep positive think of your goal to New Zealand . Dave was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus at the junction of the stomach last May . He had chemo and also had a break then the op where they took half his stomach and oesophagus which he is recovering from and he has just started his last round of chemo and learning how to eat again. His goal was to be in Benidorm next year as we had to for go this year as we say keep positive .
Polly and Dave (Toledo)

Hope the treatment goes well and you can then complete you NZ trip

Best wishes

Good luck with the treatment Teuchter. Stay strong and follow doctor's orders and you will be fine. Best wishes.

As others have said, it's not the disease it was years ago. I really do wish you all the best Mr Teuchter (from Ms Teuchter)

They really can do great things these days you know?

My father in law was given a year to live in 2008.

He died last month.

Just follow the treatment and believe in it.:xThumb:

Christmas update

I have now had more tests than I thought possible!

One more to go and then next Monday another CT scan to ascertain the exact position of the cancer so it can be marked in preparation for Radio therapy for 5 days a week for 4 to 6 weeks with Chemo therapy fitted in to the schedule as and when the oncologist decides then a few weeks "recovery time" and an operation planned for about April

Hopefully this will all start next week and in the meantime I intend to enjoy Christmas & New Year :xgrin:

Thank you all for you support and kind words (y)

Merry Christmas and a Happy new Year to all of you :xgrin::xgrin::xgrin::xgrin::xgrin:

Happy Christmas!

Thanks for the update. The 6 weeks might seem like a long haul to start with but I was surprised how quickly the days ticked away and it was well worth while.
