About 8 vans have set up a camp in the Museum carpark Torquay. Only one has number plates the others have none. Ferrel kids and dogs causing havoc and the place feels very unsafe but no Police to be seen.

Best photo I can get without risking life and limb.

I can imagine they have not broken the law by removing there number plates in the car park .It will stop them from being reported and time consuming for police to check especially the abuse they will get if they turn up
Very frustrating for anyone law abiding

To the best of my knowledge, the museum (the landowners) need to contact the police and then request that the travellers move because they are not welcome (wisest to do it in police presence).
If the museum is closed on a Sunday that may not happen until tomorrow. Police cant just turn up and decide how the land of the museum is being used unless there are other offences disclosed which should be dealt with separately.

Not the police's job until the land owner has asked them to move and been refused, but well done for the post title. Just like main stream media.

Similar in a retail park near Paignton a few weeks ago.
Got on the bus in Torquay with a couple and a little boy, after a few minutes and a little chat to break the ice they seemed ok.
They were more weary (?) of me than I was of them

I believe it's only known as the museum carpark but is actually a council owned property. I guess all the vans without number plates are stolen and probably being used without tax and insurance.

999? Not at all but if I lived in that house I would be calling in at the local cop shop.
I would also engage with them, maybe offer water at a pre agreed time and frequency.
get them on side rather than antagonise.

Might that be classed as aiding and abetting their criminality ? :)

Sounds frustrating, but as a member of the emergency services (ambulance) I can say we have been very distracted this weekend with the protests which seem to have been violent. I expect the police have been drafted there?
My heart goes out to you guys.

Very brave and under rated.

Big thank you from the Eurotrotters and family.

Go triple 9 and say you think you saw a gun 🤪
I hope you weren't being serious but it’s not particularly funny anyway. Unbelievably irresponsible. My cousin’s husband was an armed response officer for many years until recently. Their job is so stressful and dangerous. Events of the last week have been horrendous for all those affected by the tragedy of last Monday and the ongoing troubles.

What's the (hi)story of the metal fencing?
Pre or post-arrival?
Almost looks like it's marking out a temporary/separate camping area!?

Salt/Grit bin now being used as a black waste depository
Wouldn't that be a more serious breach than missing number plates? (Environmental health might want to know)

Are they doing anyone any harm?

JJ
If they are dumping black waste into a salt bin - yes

They are visually degrading the area - yes.

It is an illegal encampment - so yes.

Plus whatever criminal activity they are involved in - so yes.

And more.

Shall we give them your address to camp up on?

BrochMike The fencing is enclosing about one third of a very large local authority car park. The section closed off (fenced in on all four sides) is being redeveloped - I think. The campers unbolted and removed a section of fence to get in. This morning there was about 8 vans parked around the perimeter with a sort of communal area in the centre now liberally strewn with empty can, bottles and other mess from their near all night party.
