Flåm - and go on the Norway in a Nutshell tour.looking for recommendations for stops
Interesting post, it would be great to see this service reintroduced, thanks for the information and notification of this prospect. We used this route (by car, not m/h) the last year it was operational, about 15 years ago off top of my head. We love going to Scandi but always wish we did not have to travel across N Europe to/from first in order to get there, especially as we live in the north of England. We have heard many rumours since, that this service may be reintroduced but nothing has ever come of it. Judging by the link to Bergancruiseline website, this looks alot more promising, hope so!It is now looking likely that Bergen Cruise Line will revive the Newcastle to Stavanger/Bergen ferry route. Possibly by 2026.
But it needn't have been necessary. Eighteen months ago, I was querying DFDS about why the Immingham to Brevik service couldn't take motorhomes. The reply was surprising. They said that they had cabins on board and could definitely take motorhomes and would be happy to do so.
But. The British government has designated Immingham to not be a passenger terminal, due to some sort of stupid customs bureaucracy.
So I asked the then transport Minister with responsibility for that area of work. I mentioned that now we had left the EU, why weren't we fostering better leisure relationships with other non-EU nations, such as Norway. Why weren't Immingham (to Bergen) and Aberdeen (to Trondheim and others) open to passengers as well as freight?
I received nothing in reply.
It would be great if the motorhoming community all wrote in to their MPs requesting an answer from Baron Davies of Gower who is the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Maritime Transport asking why there are these restrictions on trade and services.
Good to see someone else posting on the lack of a connection to Scandinavia. I've mentioned the demise of the Harwich to Esbjerg ferry more than once on here with little response but there are of course not enough of us wanting to go to Scandinavia to summon the will to do anything about it. A young 14 year old started a Facebook campaign to get this route reinstated after it closed in 2014 after 139 years in operation. B*****t and then Covid pretty much scuppered our attempts to get any action from the ferry companies, and MPs in both the UK and Denmark. He wasn't a Minister at the time but a certain Robert Jenryck summed it up when answering a request from one of our members, see attachment. Oh, and there was no mention of subsidies in Marcia Parkin's letter. It is now looking likely that Bergen Cruise Line will revive the Newcastle to Stavanger/Bergen ferry route. Possibly by 2026.
