Just looking
Hi all,

Firstly, thank you for the help on my previous posts. We have now bought a MH (2005 Auto-trail) and are planning our first trip! Northumberland coast!

Does anyone have any parkup recommendations? Any pubs that let you stay over night?

We're planning on visiting Alnwick, Craster, Seahouses & of course Lindisfarne.

Cheers
OB

You’re stomping in my footsteps that I took a few months back. Very few places to stop over in some of those places, but use Google Earth and Park4Night and search for places that you would be happy to park in. I opted to stay in Seahouses and then bused to the places you mentioned and had a fabulous time.

We parked here for a few hours in Alnwick to visit the area, but no overnight parking.

Theres parking and I believe overnight here in Beadnell.

And a carpark outside Bamburgh for the Castle and gorgeous town.

We took a sight seeing boat from Seahouses to Farne Islands and got off for a lovely visit, but can’t recommend parking as I didn’t look for any.

Craster Arms Hotel in Beadnell, a couple of miles from Seahouses is decent.

can't stay overnight on Lindisfarne. But there is a place on the road leading to it off the A1.

The Rugby club at Alnwick allow overnight parking.

Northumberland is the real God's county despite what the Yorkies will try to tell you.....:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

have a word with MattR as he did a tour earlier this year.

Northumberland is lovely. I'm still trying to work out which county was created first, Lancashire or Northumberland... I'm thinking Lancashire... Things were improved for Northumberland and then things were perfected for Yorkshire ;)

OldBarry when are you thinking of going? School holidays are busy. There is a lot to see and do. How much time are you planning for your trip?

We're actually going tomorrow... For 3 nights.
Very last minute and have only got Friday planned currently!

Recommendations are very welcome at this stage...

Also, I got it wrong, Alnmouth is the plan not Alnwick 😆

Amble. Just north of the town there's an area with council designated parking for MH's. A nice walk up into Warkworth or a lunch at The Beach Hut in town. Not exactly the weather for it, but there is a good ice cream shop too!
Enjoy

All worth a visit.

Craster is a must for crab sandwiches, expensive but jammed full of crab. Also good fish/crustacean shop there.

Holy Island/Lindisfarne - pick a day when the tides allow you to come off the island well after the tour coaches have left.

If you choose the Farne Islands trip make sure you take a hat if Artic Terns are breeding. very vicious peckers.

You are going to have very good weather according to our local forecasters.

The Bamburgh, Beadnell and Amble Motorhome overnight parking is £12 per night with no facilities, bookable via

We're local and use the Bamburgh one regularly to support it's use, and whilst we haven't used the other two, Beadnell is a beautiful beach, and as mentioned, Amble is ideal for both Amble town and a walk along the estuary to Walkworth.

I often wonder why I left Northumberland but still visit when I can and park on sister's drive in Belford as we only have 5 mtre van.

Saw the title I thought someone was looking for a rubbish tip.

Nice one.

We're thinking of having a sneaky night in Belford this Saturday as a friend is playing at the Black Swan 😅

The Barn at Beal is a great stopover, it's about 1 mile from the causeway onto Lindisfarne. No where to stop over on lindisfarne, some large car parks but no overnighting. The Barn has some good pitches overlooking the bay. There is a nice restaurant / bar on site, not the cheapest but very nice. A pub about a mile back towards the A1 that does decent meals.
We cycled down to Bamburgh Castle and Seahouses following the marked cycle route. Did exactly 40 miles round trip. Would definitely go back up there again. Highly recommend it.

There’s a Britstop in Belford. It’s a farm shop with a great cafe. Very handy for Bamburgh etc. only a couple of hundred yards off the A1

If you are NT members Cragside is my favourite visit. You can’t park overnight (why not NT) Plenty of pubs around for pub stop. I stop and ask to overnight for drinks or a meal and it’s nearly always a yes.
First house on the planet to have electricity, amazing place.

Hi, can I ask which a Farne island did you land on and was it with Billy Shiels ?

I don't think landing on the Farnes is currently allowed.

Dog owners beware there are signs at Seahouses last week.

Amble, Seahouses and Beadnell all have council overnights as others mentioned.

Driving north from Creswell maybe 3\4 mile past the carpark with a height barrier there is a small car park directly opposite the Creswell bird sanctuary, used by dog walkers as it has direct access to the beach, you may have to juggle for position but once the cars have left a great spot.
High Hauxley a car park with a sign that says No overnighting but I have never been troubled there, great view of Coquet Island if you walk the 40 metres up the slight dune.
Walkworth, driving North immediately after driving over the bridge, a sharp uphill on the right and a carpark on the right just after the caravan site, ignore the first car park on the left as the village locals don't appreciate you being there.
Bamburgh driving North, past the castle turn right at the Wynding and a fantastic spot on the right after approx 1\2 mile with an amazing view of the castle, continue driving and a small roundabout at the golf course has a couple of places there also, I often park there while waiting for a space to appear at the better spot, then run like hell to claim it !! should be easier with two people.
Eyemouth harbour has an honesty box in the door of the harbour masters hut, always pay but can't remember how much, £8-ish, amazing view of the sea but you need to be aware of early fishermen maybe boxing you in in the morning.
Enjoy it all.(y)
Just re-read your post, can't help with pub stopovers sorry as I don't drink and 99% of the time I wild camp.

Best pub in the village very dog friendly. Jane lost her dogs Dylan and Alfie since I left but think they have a new addition. If you're parking overnight think there is a parade from war memorial on Sunday 10.50 AM.

Just North of Bamburgh is Budle Bay, farmer lets you use the field for a tenner a night. Cracking location but no facilities other than waste dump and fresh water. I think its on search for sites. We use it quite abit as its just up the road. Don't neglect inland either, least populated County in England so if you like peace and quiet and decent walks then the coquet and Ingram valleys are well worth a look too. Enjoy your visit.

That’s what I thought but PP Bear says they went on a few months ago. They will be closed for winter but I am hoping they open up the Puffin island next year 👏

Yes, the Billy Shiels tours had blackboards out at the ticket sales point saying no landing.

Just so you know the house at Cragside is closed for the winter though the gardens and drive are still open.

I believe the islands are closed for visitors to land this year due to bird flu. It might be worth checking. We were up at Amble a few weeks ago and the boats were still going out from the harbour though. Perhaps just viewing from a distance.
