Giethoorn - everyone knows about Giethoorn and the only think I can add is avoid during weekends and summer periods. We walked part of the village in the afternoon and then took a guided boat tour @€10 each which we thought was well worth it.

No point adding photos as you've all seem them, but this is the marina we stayed in. Unfortunately we were not on the front row ..

Musselkanal - great little stopover, good price, very quiet and well worth considering. There is a Lidls about 5 mins walk. Showers, toilets are very basic but ok. Harbour master is really friendly and helpful

Kukherne was another marina (yachthaven) really well maintained, toilets were immaculate though showers cost extra. There is a train that runs close to the site but it didn't bother us, I think the first one I heard in the morning was 0730, but it didn't wake me as I was already awake and just went back to sleep. The site is immaculately maintained and I would highly recommend this site if you're looking for a couple of very peaceful, chilled and relaxing days. It appears to have lots of cycling routes (as does all Holland!) and you can hire boats for a trip along the canals. EHU is also extra.

Zurich was disappointing, thought there might be a quaint town/village, but it's a bit run down. If you needed a free overnight park up with cycling paths and the opportunity to do a spot of sea fishing then it's fine.

We then drive over the sea defences, heading towards Den Helder, which was a very pleasant drive with a couple of information centres, but we didn't stop. It was interesting to see how they were protecting lots of Holland from the North Sea surges. I'm sure if you have time it's well worth visiting the information centre.

Den Helder. This really is a great place to visit. The motorhome aire is in the Navy Dockyard and there are several 'museum' boats, all free to wander around aswell as museum you can pay to enter with a submarine and I assume a lot more things to see. It's @€13 pe night plus €1 pe night tourist tax. EHU is €1 for 2kw (I think) via a token from the harbour masters office. We also had a wander around the town, lots of shops Inc quite a few 'tut' shops. The harbour master gave us some booklets with English 'bits' in ... so we might do 6km bike ride tomorrow to see 'all the sites'. There are around 35 dedicated large parking spaces, with room for chairs, tables etc. if there are no dedicated spaces, I'm sure the harbour master would allow you to park elsewhere... The minesweeper has an interesting story if how they escaped the Japanese in Indonesia by disguising the ship as an island, mooring up everyday and sailing by night and escaping to Australia..! I wonder if there's a movie, as it's a great story?
