Hi
I am sailing to Santander on 4th November, planing to tour North West of Spain (Cantabria, Asturias, Galicia) and then North Portugal (down up to Porto or Aveiro) for 3 weeks.
All you experience travellers of this area, can you please recommend places of interest to visit (cities, towns, village, cost, nature etc)?

Any Solo traveler that want to meet in those areas or later on on route to South Portugal and Spain, please make a contact. Would love to have Friends and Company.

Thanks in advance

Sopela, on the coast north east of Bilbao. You can wild in the car park on the cliff tops.

The interest is the parc at the top, it's a climb to the top;

Once you reach the top there is a track off to the right with wild camping opportunities. Carry on the road for a few kms and there is an entrance to the parc on the left. It is a rough road but follow it to the fork, take the right fork, carry on to the end. If it has been raining you'll find a great waterfall, about 1000 to 2000ft vertical drop.

If it's sunny the rock walls are a nesting place for many Griffon Vultures. Once the sun comes up and the ground starts to warm they will be throwing themselves of the rock face in droves.

They will fly this close.

I have wilded many times on this spot.

Thanks Old Man & Spave.
I am driving a 8m MH with Towbar bikes rack, will this route be suitable, a specially the route to the parc?

Lots of Spanish delivery lorries go up the mountain, a couple of the hairpins may need two hits but it's worth it.

If you decide to go there, take a half chicken or rabbit from the Hypermercados, lay it out on the cliff edge and you'll get your own personal nature reality show.

On reflection, Mundaka is a lovely village but verry narrow roads with overhanging balconies. It may not be the best place for a large MoHo.

Thank you Old Man.
May park out of Mundaka and cycle in to town. Is the picture showing the new part of town with apartment blocks?

There is a campsite just outside Mundaka.

It is a nice place but again it needs checking. When I was last there, travelling campers were put in the lower bottom field. It was a good slope down and then up, back then it was a grassy trail and after rain a slippery climb.

However you could cycle into Mundaka.

Mundaka is a world reknown surf location, it has a reputation for the best left break in Europe.

Also great seafood is available.

Those apartments are in the newer part of town. The port is in the older part of town;

It is a small village and great to explore. A little further around the coast is the larger fishing port of Bermeo where you will find a brightly painted fishing boat fleet;

From here you can continue along the coast road all the way to Sopela and Bilbao, it is a lovely drive, take a picnic as there are many parking viewpoints, I've wilded in many of them. En route you will come across a decomissioned nuclear power plant, a very haunting place.

A further place of interest;

If you are approaching Mundake from the south you will pass close to Gernika;

Its place in history is confirmed;

And the inspiration for Guernica, 1937 by Pablo Picasso;

That looks stunning... My vans 8.4m I hope I can get up that mountain

I've seen large Spanish delivery trucks making their way up. A little manouvering on some hairpins.
Yeah it doesn't look as steep as some I've seen I think the only worry would be the low overhang on my van

Hi,
If you head toward Fisterra, tis the far far west of Spain, leave the town itself, ( nice place) and head uphill toward the lighthouse, there's a fab 'Aire' at the top with stunning views!
Enjoy!
