Looking at travelling to and staying at a flop and drop site in north Croatia for a week in September 2025 . Looking for suitable sites by the sea (assuming they’ll be quieter by then ) , prefer a smaller site near a small town as well . 2nd question is the route from north Italy - I assume its not practical to avoid Slovenia - are we talking vingettes again ?

The Slovenian Vignette is only available on line here.
It's controlled by ANPR, no stickers.

You can either but it in advance, or, buy before 17.30h on day of entry.
Has to be bought on line, can not be bought in Service Stations any more.

They seem to be fairly relaxed about the actual weight of motorhomes, and just class them all as "2A" cars unless you have a coach or lorry based one.

Many sites on the coast in Croatia are fabulous resort sites, with hundreds of hard standing pitches, a selection of pools, restaurants, and bars to suit those with kids/without kids, etc.
It's the only place I have seen where the dish washing area had a line of dish washers!
The prices match the facilities!

Keep in mind for Germans and Austrians, and other former members of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Croatia is the closest bit of sea, and as a former part of the Empire is a logical place for them all to go, so I suspect Croatian campsites are full most of the year around.

I've always found plenty of space on campsites in September and October.
Stara Baska on Krk was one of my favorites but it's not close to a town.
A lot of sites there are 500+ pitches but don't let that put you off, I prefer small sites but found the larger ones actually ok.

We loved stara baska for a weeks chilling, would love to go back sometime👍👍

When went to northern Croatia a few years ago late September, I was surprised by the number of naturists we encountered.
But we do tend to walk around a lot, exploring.
The weather was beautiful and the sea was warm and clear.

We have been through Slovenia 3 times on the way to Croatia and have never used toll roads or, therefore, a vignette.
It is possible to take the E61 road from Italy to Croatia.
It's the only one from Trieste without a toll.

70 miles of decent quality 'A' road, but no dual carriage ways etc, so you could be behind a tractor for a while.
You will end up in Rejika.

Which is of course the wrong side, for Istria, which is the main tourist area for northern Croatia.
(You will burn up more than the €16 cost of the Vignette in fuel to get to places such as Paula, Porec, Rovinj.)

Depends how long you have. We don't touch Italy. There is some beautiful countryside through the western side of Slovenia. Not the fastest but we are not in a rush.
