I'm a newbie, but owned a caravan about 30 years ago.
Hi Funsters - planning to take Bessie on a 10 day tour around parts of Norfolk in late September. Never visited before, so any suggestions on campsites and places to visit.
Would be helpful if campsites were near a bus route. Any help would be much appreciated.

Banham zoo has a nice campsite. apple wood camping. If you stay there you get discounted admission. A small friendly zoo, but the birds of prey demo is a joy to behold.

Bressingham is a great day out if you like steam trains and fabulous gardens. They used to allow camping, but I don't think they do now.

Great Yarmouth is OK for a day if you like busy, Blackpool type places, but if you go, do not miss the fish museum where you go into some of the old smoke houses.

Norwich is a beautiful city like York, Canterbury etc. most places you can get there easily by bus or train.

Enjoy.

We stayed at Deepdale Camping in Burnham Deepdale.
There are beautiful coast path walks beside the creeks and marshes, where you can walk for miles. (Scolt head island nature reserve).
Bus stop outside site which takes you both directions along to Hunstanton or Wells next the sea and plenty of lovely stops in between e.g Holkham,Burnham Market,Brancaster, Thornham.
A couple of shops and pop ups next to site together with a couple of pubs in walking distance.
Love the never ending sky in Norfolk.
Only downside is, it’s quite expensive to stay there!

Hi,

Incleboro Fields is worth a stay at West Runton. Bus route into Cromer, Sheringham and Norwich. Also has a train station. Lovely spot on the coast, couple of shops and a Pub all in easy walking distance.

Seacroft is near there too (East Runton), and there are a couple of sites just inland from Cromer on the Cromer/Norwich road.

A nice small certificated site in Weybourne on the road down to the beach and another adjacent to the entrance to Muckleburgh Military collection (not used by myself).

The coast hopper bus runs all the way from Cromer to Wells next the sea and then you can continue on the sister service from Wells to Hunstanton. All on the A149. Great service and they don't hang about.

All the villages on the A149 have something of interest and there is the North Norfolk Coastal path.

Woodhill in east Runton is good, C&CC site in Norwich if you want to visit the city

If you get to Norwich (Do try), there are lots of places to visit. The Cathedral and grounds are stunning also Norwich Cathedral boasts the second highest spire in England after Salisbury. The Norman castle which is also a museum is worth a visit. One of my favourite places is Elm Hill which is only about 500 yards from the Cathedral and well worth a look.
Various other museum's and plenty of other places to visit depends really what your tastes are. As someone has mentioned earlier there is a Camping and Caravanning club site at Martineau Lane just on the outskirts of Norwich (01603 620060) which is a short bus ride into Norwich (bus stop 0.25 miles from site entrance).

Have fun.

This a nice peaceful site, easy walk to sea or Cromer

Ludham, Dannys PaddockCL or Wells next the Sea, The Midden CL
Ludham Staithe is delightful and the ruins of St tenets Abbey is about a mile and a half walk/cycle set adjacent to one of the many rivers/canals that abound.

Sutton Staithe is another good stop large free parking at the back of the pub

Aylesham is a nice place and nearby is Blickling Hall reputed to be where Anne Boleyn was born. Martin:s 3xGreat-Grandparents are in Blickling churchyard.

There are a number of CL and CS sites in the area.

Also if you are into cycling Marriott Way and Weavers Way are worth a pedal.

There is a CCC site in Norwich but if you have a taller MH beware of the low bridges on approach.

2nd Deepdale. Not sure when their low season kicks in, but massive difference in price.

Poppyland is a beautiful site and another vote for the Camping and Caravan site in Norwich. Facilities are a bit dated but clean. They are reluctant to upgrade as not sure how much longer they can remain there.
