Daughter has decided on a bit if diy electrics 🤬
She thought she'd like a new pull switch in the bathroom and so took the old one off without noting how it was wired 🤬🤬🤬

Next, call dad.

So I have two black neutral cables and two red live cables, plus the earths.
I have a multimeter so I've identified those carrying the 230v. But at loss after that.

It's a one way switching and new switch has terminals common live in L1 and live out plus earth of course.

Any ideas how to make correct connections please ?

TIA

Had the same on my mums,
a double pole switch,
I had both reds attached through the L, and both blacks through the N, earth if it has one. (if pre 70s house maybe none)

IF in doubt get qualified help.
and ask her to take a picture first next time Dad "!!!! :giggle:

The likely combination is 2 blacks together and 1 red in common and 1 in l1.

That's how I first tried it, except with both the l and n cables going to the terminals as above, but it tripped out.
She also says there was a 1gang terminal block and 'thinks' it may have had one of the black wires going to it. But it just fell off and didn't need unscrewing, but can't really remember for sure which colour 🤷‍♂️

If you can access the ceiling rose see if the light is connected across two blacks, if so one of the blacks is a switch line. If that's the case the reds need to go in common together and you need to determine which black is the switch line. When determined mark both ends with red tape.

Always pays to note/photo the wiring before disconnecting.
There are three different ways that switch could be connected.

She's been told, firstly not to mess with electrics, but if she does to make a careful note of how things are before disconnecting anything.

Will she listen ? I doubt it 😕

Many thanks to all for assistance, everything works as it should now and she has a nice new black pull switch.
