No water from taps

Hi All
Just came back early from a 4 day trip to Herefordshire due to impending snow. When we arrived on site, we filled up the water as normal and after having the van drained down since it has been in storage, we found that there was no water from the taps. we knew the dump valve was closed so it had to be an airlock. After trying to bleed the air from the taps still no water. The pump was running so I took the foam cover off the pump and found that the clear plastic dirt filter was empty. I removed the cover and got some water into the pump which eventually got water through to the taps at last. Just thought we would post this in case anyone else has air lock problems. By removing the plastic filter cover briefly, we cured the airlock.

It has I believe been noted before, that a few vans do indeed have an airlock on occasions. It may be worth your while trying to follow the cold water pipe from the tank, to check the pipe has not created a loop that prevents the natural flow of water. Alternately there could have been a little residual water left in the pipe (although drained) that had frozen.

Following on from our water dilemma. I took the cover off the pump housing underneath the van and located the water pump. It crossed my mind that the grit filter housing may have cracked in all the cold weather despite draining down the system but all was intact. I noticed that the housing was empty despite the pump running so all it took was to remove the housing and water immediately flooded from the tank to the pump. I put the housing back on and ran the pump and hey presto all taps were now working so all it was, was an airlock at the pump!
