On our usual trip south for the winter we have always got UK channels on Astra 28.2 all the way down to Murcia, 85cm dish and Vision plus tv with built in receiver. This year nothing in Spain at all, so now in the Dordogne and still nothing. I can get Hotbird BBC news so there's not a problem with my equipment  Has something changed?

Astra 28 is still transmitting.
And is still here in Spain.
On your dish you should at least get those channels on the European beam (ie news, shopping, god channels),..but it will not get the likes of bbc itv c4 fives uktv etc on the UK beam as the dish is too small.

Many of the channels have change transmission parameters, and moving to DVBS2 (ie signals only received on HD boxes only). And many SD channels are now MPEG4, not MPEG2, so if your receiver is old or not been updated, it will not get many channels.

Hi thanks for your reply last year we got ch 4,5 and itv at IKEA in Murcia. The set is seven years old with HD receiver I can't even get the German tv I used to get occasionally if I was pointing the dish slightly off. Should have said its a Maxveiw crank up about ten years old.

Bet it was all the SD channels of C4 ITV and 5 you got...much "easier" signals than the "HD" signals they are now on.

German channels are still on Astra 1s at 19e.
So if you cannot get them, or anything else, then it could be that your HD receiver is not as good as it should be and struggling to get the channels now they are DVBS2 Mpeg4.

Yes it was the SD channels apart from ch5 I could still get the HD signal. I will try again when we get further north.

No thanks I didn't but I'm sure the location finder app I use does I just point it where it tells me. If it has moved why does the dish at home not need realignment?
Did you know that Astra 2 moved on 05/09/24?

Where did the three Astra 2 satellites move to?
Astra 2s supplying UK satellite TV have been at 28.2-5 since 1998 so if they moved from there it would mean all dishes in the UK would have had to have been realigned.
Think you have been misinformed....

I think I was imprecise. The satellite has not physically moved. The channels were moved to a different transponder within the satellite.

I can't get any satellite reception now. All I know about my system is what the dish and controller look like. I was about to start some research into what the problem might be. I know the system will be quite old. I don't know if there is a way of retuning it or updating it. There aren't any places to plug into as far as I know.

I understand what you mean now. Yes the sat tuner preset channels have been off for years, I have to do a blind scan every now and then to keep everything up to date which takes a while. But at the moment I'm not picking up an Astra signal to do that, not that there's much worth watching on tv anymore 🙄

SatellieS - plural. There are three UK TV satellites : 2e, 2f and 2g.
And most changes have been due to the channel moving to the more efficient DVBS2 broadcast standard, in most cases meaning a change of transponder, in some cases a simple flick of a swicth on their current transponder... better compression, better data, meaning more channels on a frequency, and better quality images and resolution as the channels can move from MPEG2 to MPEG4.
I think only the Channel 5 group of channels are left on the old DVBS....
So loss of channels can also be down to if your receiver is not DVBS2 / Mpeg4 compliant.

I've registered as a customer on the Teleco website but when I went to register the product I need to give the model, serial number, supplying dealer, date of purchase etc. Unfortunately I don't have any of this. The satellite was on my van when I bought it but there was no paperwork.

I don't know where the sat box is. I have removed the control panel but that just has a multi plug connection (similar to ethernet) and no USB socket.

Can anyone help me please?

You can download the required software without giving all that information. I helped a mate out with a Teleco and downloaded the stuff without issue. You either need to start pulling panels off or trace the cable from the sat selection / raise lower buttons and find the control box. It shouldn't be too far away...

hi yes as above i bought mine with it in the van i had no problem getting the download was straight forward ,,they give you a detailed way to install it ,,my box was in the cupboard next to the control panel ,,just follow the wiring,,

I have partially traced the wires from the control panel and the satellite socket and realised that the satbox must be in the void behind the fridge. It's hopefully accessible via the fridge vent grilles. I think they would not have made it too difficult to get to! I'll have a look tomorrow and I've got an endoscope I can connect to my laptop if I need it.

I don't know why it was installed behind the fridge. There are two cupboards that I think would have been better locations.

The dish has a dealer sticker for SG Home and Leisure so I can always message them if I need to.

hope ypu get it sorted ,,the usb cable it the square type at one end not sure what its called ,,it should have a d+ signal wire too mine didn't ,,so had to run one from the ignition something to do with knowing the van had moved ,,making it look for a new signal ,

We’re currently in Haro , Rioja , Spain and using our 85cm with Autoskew can still get subscription channels on SKY including sports , movies , news but you need a SKY HD box and viewing card
BBC and ITV is possible but I can stream them through are firestick so the missus can get her soap fix

Where did you get the usb cable to connect your laptop to the satbox for updating please? I'm guessing you also have a permanent usb cable that you disconnect to swap with the update usb cable? It's the permanent usb cable that somehow needed a D+ supply wire connected to it?

Hopefully this will all become clearer when I find the satbox tomorrow. Thanks for your help which is much appreciated.

The D+ signal is much more likely being used to tell the dish to return to the 'down' position when the engine is started.

If anyone is looking to get U.K. satellite TV as in BBC ITV 4 & 5 I think the best option now that Intelsat has gone is using a Kabelio CI card. It works very well all over Europe using the Hotbird satellite. You need a TV or decoder that accepts a CI card. You can buy the card for £65 which gives you 3 months then you need to subscribe to continue using. It is a Swiss product and you need a Swiss address to register but any address in Switzerland works. This is the best dish solution now.

I did a YT video about Kabelio about 9 months ago when the "Satback" signal changed satellites and became impossible to get in southern Europe. Easy to set up, and i think i used either a hotel or the university address to register the card!

hi the cables are readably available ,,not permanently attached to the box its like a printer cable square rather tan oblong ,,like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/kenable-Speed-Cable-Printer-BLACK/dp/B003OSZ1KY/?tag=mhf04-21

hi teleco technical says the d+ was for telling the dish to look for a new position ,,or it would think your in the same location and go to the same position ,,just what they told me when i was struggling to lock on quickly ,,it might be used to tell it to retract too ?

Thank you. I've got a cable like that and they are probably pretty standard. I've found the satbox behind the microwave. I can see it through an external 3" round vent - but I started another thread about this as I was taking this thread off topic.

Unfortunately the access to it is by removing the microwave which requires the fridge freezer to be removed! Unless I can plug a usb cable in via one of the two 3" vents!

I'm now fifty miles SE of Tours and tried to get a signal again with no luck! So I selected BBC news on the epg instead of ch 4 sd and bingo got a signal did a blind scan and got three hundred channels. I'll have to remember not to tune in the presets as they are so out of date.
