Just about to set off tomorrow to the North East for a few days when I noticed that the van’s fridge’s light was not working. fridge seems to be otherwise ok but no little blue light when opening up. It had flickered a few times over the years and a gentle ‘flick’ of the switch seemed to settle it. But no longer.

Is this a user replaceable part or am I at the mercy of a professional with fees to boot?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

TIA.

Is this an internal light or on the control panel?

I think it's part of the door lock and is a fairly easy swap out from posts on here. But.... the price of the part will make your eyes water..

I read the same thread, and just to let you know if you buy the whole units the left and right handed lights are the same light but with the mirco switch flipped over

I know this as I brought the cheaper one and then just flipped the micro switch over

I got up for a drink of milk in the middle of the night in our old Adria wobble-box days, when I opened the fridge door, the light came on, I had my drink and was heading back to bed when I remembered that the fridge didn't have a light in it !
I went back for another look and saw it was a packet of raw prawns that was bioluminescing enough to illuminate the fridge. They went straight in the bin the next morning !

If its the same as mine there is bugger all inside, a regulator, microswitch and a few LED's... Very expensive to replace.
Condensation is an issue with these, may be worth taking off and drying out before spending and cash.
Alternative, leave as it is for the catch element and buy a stick in light. (y)

That's the one, I just flipped the mirco switch to the other prongs to make it left to right

How do actually remove it I couldn’t see ,I was afraid of breaking something?

The front cover does clip off BUT it's been a while since i have done it I cant remember.. It was quite stiff..
Then 2 screws inside.
If I get chance to go back in the van i will check.

I was just about to ask the same question.

Having dried the control panel, with a gentle blast from a hairdryer, the unit will now switch off when I press the On/Off button.

When testing the Unit, which is a Dometic RML8555, it would not switch off.

Whenever I pressed the button it turned off, and then fired up again, after a few seconds.

Gas or EHU, made no difference

Suspecting a spaniard in the works, by way of moisture, I dried the panel out and all was well.

However, the blue light in the door latch mechanism flickers, and so I thought I would have a shuffti at the wiring, but I am unsure about removing the door lock lighting cover.

It looks as if it should just pull off, but although the upper edge will release, and the lower edge too, they will not release at the same time ?

Is it just my ageing arthritic fingers lacking grip or is there a knack to removal ?

I am loathe to really heave on it, as it is a costly item to replace.

Just pull it off and if the LEDs leave gone there's a thread on here somewhere to buy them off Ebay and solder them in

If not buy the cheaper ones and they are for Left and Right sided fridge and undo the little box and flip the LEDs round

It's just a massive con

It's as post #7 shows you flip the switch over

If it’s the blue light on the control panel, then it’s the door that is not closing fully. The door when in use should be held by the magnetic seal with the transport catch clipped up. If the fridge is slightly twisted the magnetic strip may not be strong enough to hold it fully and the blue light will strobe. In that case it is best to release the transport catch and use it to secure the door. However when closing the door do press the buttons on the top of the door to raise the catch until it is closed or you will soon wear a notch out of the plastic bar of the transport latch which is part of the light unit.

Hmmm ?

Thanks for that, matey.

I found Resources, and I found the Manuals for Motorhome stuff.

I looked on page 1 but the only Dometic post that I saw led me nowhere.

What am I doing wrong ?

Found it now. Thanks.

I did not realise, in my ignorance, that the article needed to be downloaded.

A technical task which I can just about manage.

I see there is a photo showing a magical hand removing the cover by lifting it away from the rear edge.

It looks exactly the same as the unit that I am dealing with.

I will re-apply the arthritic digits.
