Swift Ace Genova 2005. 3 years
Hi, I have a 2005 Swift Ace Genova and have lost 240v to my fridge and interior lights. I have 240v to my sockets, water heater, Truma heater and cooker. I've checked all obvious fuses, breakers but I am at a loss. Everything works as it should on 12v and lpg. Any wizards out there with some technical help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

Interior lights will be 12v, fridge needs 12v too so suggest you see if 12v is turned on and is battery OK.

Fridge will be 240v on EHU make sure you consumer unit hasn’t tripped and the fridge is turned to 240v. Our fridge only works on 12v with the engine running.

Consumer unit works fine. Fridge turned to 240 but doesn't operate. How can the lights work on 12v if I have the system on 240v for the water heater?

Cos they are normally 12v or if you didn't have ehu how would they work?

I think it still needs a 12v supply even on ehu but could be wrong. Not working on 12v but needs it for something.

Thanks for your responses btw. I have a Dometic 3 way fridge which is only about 3 years old and not had a large amount of use. My thought is that maybe the fault on the fridge lies in its circuit board. Also, on the control panel above the Habitation door there is a 3 way switch I was led to believe that the switch had to be in the middle for 240v operation. Have I been misled?

We have a 3 way switch. When on EHU the position is down to charge leisure and up to charge engine battery. If in the middle nothing is charged but everything should still work including 12v. Unless a compressor fridge 12v will kill battery which is why engine must be running.

Unfortunately, this is my problem. I'm wondering if it's the switch on the control panel that's faulty. I've been trying to find someone local to me near Swansea who would have a look for me

GeoffnDee, Many thanks, I'm sure it is but I'll have to check in the morning now

The lights are 12v and the fridge control panel requires 12v to work even when turned to 240v. Due to the low current required by the fridge control panel it is often fed from the same fuse as the lights.
The 12v is supplied by your habitation battery which is replenished by the 240v powered onboard charger when on hookup.
Check your 12v fuses are all ok.
Does any other 12v item work? Water pump maybe?
A photo of the panel and the three way switch would be helpful.

I suspect you have a general 12v problem rather than a fridge problem. This video explains how the panel works. The left hand switch should be down to enable the 12v system to run from the leisure battery.

Use the panel to check if you have any charge in your battery

Many thanks Itsmcb. That has sorted my problem completely. I was making the mistake of putting the switch in central position. The 240 would still work on the sockets etc but of course it shut off the 12v system. Oh the joys of being a novice lol

Excellent, glad your sorted, sometimes the simplest things are the most annoying 🤷

Afitos , If you do not have them already , There are operation manuals for the Sargent electrical system control panel and PSU fitted to your Swift Motorhome to be found at www.sargentltd.co.uk ,in their support section , that you may find useful

I'd check your habitation/Leisure battery because I think it's flat.
When connected to EHU and charging the battery, you're getting power from the mains and not the battery. That is powering your fridge control and lights (at 12V). If you wait long enough, the battery may recover but it's likely to hold little charge and likely to need replacing.

It wasn't flat, it just wasn't turned on 👍 see post #18
